EPA says power for data centers can sidestep pollution laws

July 27, 2026"Power sources providing electricity only to data centers and not the public grid may not be subject to federal pollution laws, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said on Monday.
"The EPA said if the power plants are not supplying electricity to the grid then they would not be subject to the federal #CleanAirAct's #AcidRain Program, which has been key to the dramatic reduction of #smog and #soot pollution from industrial facilities."

There seems to be a continued backlash agaijst #OpenAI for their begging for the US military comtracts which will allow for automated killing with no human involvement as well as mass surveillance. As a result of #Anthropic rejecting those two points, people are flocking to their service.

"On Monday, OpenAI and Nvidia jointly announced a letter of intent for a strategic partnership to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems for OpenAI's AI infrastructure, with Nvidia planning to invest up to $100 billion as the systems roll out. The companies said the first gigawatt of Nvidia systems will come online in the second half of 2026 using Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform.
"Everything starts with compute," said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, in the announcement. "Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future, and we will utilize what we're building with NVIDIA to both create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale.""
