  1. Time for week 29 of #technicalwritingclass! We're almost done--just this one BS group project left to go!

  2. My #technicalWritingClass prof keeps telling me to pick a more interesting color scheme for my webpage, possibly based on the images I’m using.

The problem is that my images are all Magic cards, so I have way too many colors to choose from. It’s far too easy to choose a terrible color scheme based only on those cards, and I have done so in an attempt to prove the point. Hasn’t helped; I just got peer feedback telling me to pull from the images.

  3. #technicalwritingclass is more boring than usual

somebody talk to me? tell me about a nice thing that's happened to you this week

  4. I think I found a loophole in the #technicalwritingclass syllabus

You're allowed to miss one class, but attendance is counted by completion of an in-class assignment submitted on the class website.

I was not in class tonight, but I did complete and submit the assignment. I think this means the last class is still a freebie.

  5. So it turns out the #technicalwritingclass homework is painfully trivial, and the class that was supposed to explain a complicated and widely used content structuring system conveyed no useful information.

All we learned (including people who were actually there) is that #DITA is nothing more or less than an XML schema.

  6. me: *isn't in #technicalwritingclass but decided to be clever and do the assignments anyway*

also me: *happens to be missing the most complex and poorly taught session of the class, and can't figure out from the slides how to do the assignments*

classmates: *are in class and equally confused*

  7. Shitty twist of the night: the actual assignment is to do the same thing, but on a different topic #technicalwritingclass

  8. Today in #technicalwritingclass, I did a little bit of voice acting. Four takes, and the last was apparently the best.

The other members of my group kind of voluntold me to do the recording, but I was considering volunteering anyway, I like explaining things to people & this isn't the first time I've narrated an instructional video (it's the second)

And now we're done and I can go back to not caring

  9. #technicalwritingclass prof pronounces "format" as "formyeat." Sounds kinda Pittsburgh to me. I don't remember where he's from.

  10. #technicalwritingclass prof: "You want to screen-test your instructional video, because they can be mind-numbing if you don't keep people's attention..."

Me: *editing my #desertBus knitting charts in the back row*

  11. #technicalwritingclass prof just referred to having videos on Youtube as "feeding the Goo," and he's right but not for the reason he thinks

  12. Today in #technicalwritingclass: Prof's Pandora channel brought the funk nobody asked for

Today's lesson: video production. Hoping it requires me to only give as few fucks as usual with this class.

  13. Prof: "I don't think we're going to have time to do all this..."

    told you so

  14. Guest speaker is done, leaving us only a third of the class. Wonder if prof planned for this. #technicalwritingclass

  15. Guest speaker has finally gotten back on topic: whatever your value judgement of how people engage with writing, it underpins our culture, and good writing matters more than ever now that there are so many alternatives to text. #technicalwritingclass

  16. CW: kinda mad at this guest speaker

Writing is not a cultural handicap. It frees us from the mental weight of memorization and actually allows us to process and compare the concepts set before us.

    #technicalwritingclass

  17. Guest speaker: "audiobooks are a competitor for text."

Like fuck they are. This is about content, not medium.

    #technicalwritingclass

  18. Guest speaker about "how writing has changed over the last 200 years" just took a dramatic turn for the kids-these-days. Now he's trying to walk it back, but I don't think he's succeeding. #technicalwritingclass

  19. ooh, good guy guest speaker makes sure his wife gets writer credit on the book the two of them wrote together #technicalwritingclass

  20. #technicalwritingclass hasn't started yet and I'm already tired of it

or maybe I'm just tired in general

  21. Today in "nice things about being an adult":

Nobody says anything when you sneak out of class to use the washroom

    #technicalwritingclass

  22. Tonight's #technicalwritingclass opens with hip-hop. I'm already confused.

Luckily tonight's module is Content Layout.

  23. "Manual formatting is a sign that you lack professionalism."

Trying to come up with a snarky response to that, but I just feel called out.

    #technicalwritingclass

  24. Our typography lesson began with a really badly shot Karen Kavett video'

it reminded me of all the reasons I'm not a nerdfighter anymore

    #technicalwritingclass

  25. Time for #technicalwritingclass! Over/under on how long I can stay awake?

Today's lesson: Content Elements, featuring (apparently) Word's automatic styling

  26. ClickHelp is becoming increasingly familiar and intuitive, and yet I still think I'll forget how to use it by tomorrow morning. #technicalwritingclass
