Xbox Project Helix: The $1,000 Beast That Runs Steam🎮💻

The “Console” is Dead. Long Live the Hybrid. Is Microsoft’s Project Helix worth the premium price tag?

Following the confirmation of Project Helix, the gaming community has been dissecting what this hybrid shift means for the future of hardware. While the initial reveal focused on the “PC-in-a-box” concept, deeper analysis of the hardware specifications and the broader competitive landscape suggests Microsoft is positioning this as a high-end disruptor rather than a traditional console.

That concept really captures the “PC-soul in a console-body” vibe—especially with that unified UI showing Steam and Xbox side-by-side. It looks like the kind of machine that would make a $1,000 price tag a lot easier to swallow for a hardcore enthusiast.

@Prozak You're absolutely right—running 20B+ models locally can be quite costly. From a purely economic standpoint, your setup with LiteLLM + Ollama + cloud for heavy lifting makes the most sense for most people.

However, I still find myself drawn to the idea of experimenting with a local setup, even if it's not the most cost-effective choice. There's a certain appeal to tinkering with hardware and having full control over the system. It's not just about efficiency; it's about learning, autonomy, and the satisfaction of building something with your own hands. It's akin to building a custom PC just for the enjoyment of the process—sometimes, the journey itself is the reward!

Have you ever felt the urge to go fully local, even if just for the experience? Or are you firmly in the "hybrid is the best approach" camp?

This is my new Mastodon server. Yeah, another moment, another time, I reset my VPS and then reinstalled this instance again. I enjoyed discovering how to configure my VPS very perfectly without flaws, without results that are due to low-quality decisions, mistakes, and unorganized or unplanned choices.

But, my presence in the Fediverse isn't new. It has been traced back to around the 2020s (I can't remember the exact date) when, at that time, Vivaldi Browser offered me the opportunity to create a new browser sync personal account, and I also started using their Mastodon instance called "Vivaldi Social."

In Malaysia, there were many news mentions of the Fediverse and Mastodon because, at that time, Elon Musk was buying a platform called Twitter before he rebranded it as X, which caused people online to be upset that their favorite platform could be easily bought by a so-called billionaire.

A very happy Dhanteras,
the first day of Diwali 🪔
Happy Halloween 👻 🎃
and Blessed Samhain🕯️ to all!

I hope you have a terrific time! 🎃

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is a joyous occasion celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains around the world. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. May this Diwali bring you and your loved ones joy, prosperity and enlightenment. 🪔

Helloween, the eve of All Saints, is a time for fun and mischief. Whether you're dressing up in a costume, carving pumpkins, or indulging in sweet treats, I hope you have a terrific time! 🎃

Samhain, the ancient Celtic festival, marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the darker half of the year. It is a time for reflection, honoring the ancestors, and embracing the mysteries of the unknown. May you find peace, wisdom and connection during this sacred time. 🕯️

No matter how you choose to celebrate, I hope you take a moment to appreciate the beauty and magic of this season. May it bring you warmth, joy and inspiration, and may the coming year be full of love, growth and abundance.

🎉🎃🕯️🪔

Did anyone manage to successfully (and reliably) use a #Xiaomi #Micamera #2k (the "Magnetic Mount" one - the model should be "mjsxj03hl" ) with #homeassistant ?

I don't actually plan to flash it with this:
https://github.com/OpenIPC/device-mjsxj03hl/blob/master/Manual_en.md
as so far the Xiaomi Home app has been the most reliable one yet.

I managed to get a stream using the Xiaomi #Miot integration but it's relatively unreliable (random disconnects, motion detection is meh).

The best would be to integrate it with #Frigate or #AgentDVR but my hopes aren't exactly high.
