Maybe the problem with overgrown social media platforms is scale. Too many people posting, all overseen by one centralised mod team, so nobody can effectively take responsibility for any of it. One piece of evidence for this is platforms that segment mod responsibility, like Reddit, not being as much of a sewer pipe.
