    Q2: make while traveling?

    A2: sometimes. Trips to BurningMan and anime conventions and maker events, I basically always have some project in progress. Rarely I will bring small projects on other trips - only if it needs very limited tools.

    The kit varies wildly. To BM supplies are too extensive to list. Anime cons are usually at least basic sewing supplies and maybe some extra tools like for setting grommets. Maker events like #teardown I have basic electronics gear.

    Ultimately I fell into a two day deep dive project and figured others may be interested! Full disclosure, it is AI written/designed, etc. The intent wasn't really to publish something like this, but to learn something. I did try to do a few passes over the language to clean it up and make sure all the sources align but I don't think AI will ever replace human touch with writing.

    Like everyone I've been messing with Claude Code and the more "agentic" way of working, and I wanted to see how far it'd go. I started from an OSINT angle. Claude will go HARD! Give it docker, let it spin up a sub-agent per facet... honestly a bit too far. So I pointed it at something more fun: how does FIFA actually track the ball and the players?

    Same style of prompting. A subagent per track to chase, etc. At one point I had 70+ agents running in the background collecting data, plus OCR on presentation slides, YouTube transcription, and looping fresh research off whatever the OCR and transcripts turned up.

    The result is this writeup. The ball to the radio signals to the processing to whatever ends up on the screen. Learned a ton, about the FIFA stack and about working with Claude, and there's loads more to dig through (webinars, sales decks, papers).

    As we muse on the mechanical, we might recall that it was on this date (according to most sources, though a few cite the 12th or the 19th of June) in 1902 that Philadelphia restauranteurs Frank Hardart and Joe Horn opened the first Automat in the U.S. A cavernous, waiterless establishment that was a combination of fast (but fresh) food, vending, and a cafeteria. Customers put nickels into slots beside small glass-doored compartments in the Automats and turned a knob. In the compartment next to the slot, food revolved into place for the customer to receive through the glass door.

    Horn & Hardart Automats expanded into a chain reaching Manhattan in 1912. With their uniform recipes and centralized commissary system of supplying their restaurants, the Automats were America’s first major fast-food chain.

  17. #teardown einer meiner Powerbanks. Um das Gehäuse unfallfrei zu öffnen muss man zuerst das geklebte Solarpanel vorsichtig lösen und entfernen, darunter sind dann vier Schrauben.

    Einer der beiden parallelgeschalteten #LiPo-Akkus ist schon arg aufgebläht. In meinen Augen fehlt hier eine Ladereglung für die beiden Akkus.
    Mal schauen ob ich da günstig neue Akkus bekomme, evtl direkt mit einem #BMS

The display has eight 7-segment digits plus some symbols and probably dots - around 67 elements total. 27 traces go to the display. Keypad has 24 buttons. (Previous owner's name redacted.)
