This was a great Art Fight! I had 21 fantastic defenses – several of which were on multiple of my characters – and did 26 attacks +1 for someone not participating this year (a new PR!).

My goals this year were to:

1. Push myself a bit with poses. I want to get more expressive and less rigid with body language. I felt this was a success, which I owe to all the rad characters I got to draw, each of which challenged me in a different way!
2. Figure out an approach to simple backgrounds without making them flat. I want to ramp up character detail in my comics, but to make that feasible, I want to simplify the background in a way that keeps the image engaging. I felt like I gained ground here, too (it depends a lot on what the specific background calls for, though).

A few unexpected results:

1. I haven't drawn a lot of mech stuff, but I drew a clunker of a space ship, which was fun!
2. I figured out some ways to draw foliage, feathers, and stone that I like.
3. I drew a pile of pillows. That was daunting, but I'm actually pretty pleased with how it came out!
4. I designed a "Zeeb" avatar! My weird b&w bird with colorful Hawaiian shirts :)

I've also truly enjoyed looking around at the different attacks people post. The amount of creativity in this world is mind-blowing to me.
