Sometime in the Oligocene I did my M.Sc. sharing facilities with a fission track lab, so I picked up some of the process involved and I have a lot of respect for it. Fission track labs have done some amazingly innovative things like automated image processing for counting tracks and mathematics for calculating average ages, uncertainties and modelling thermal histories. Fission track dating in apatite is ahead of its time :oofface:
