Today, someone shared a beautiful collage of their “inspo teachers” (Inspirational) for Teacher Appreciation Day, and seeing myself included stopped me in my tracks. It was such a simple gesture, but it touched me deeply.
Being a teacher is a title I never expected to have, and it’s one I hold with so much gratitude. The opportunity to share what I know, to help others grow, is truly a gift. But here’s the truth—I learn just as much from my students as they do from me. You teach me how to listen, how to adapt, and how to be better every day.
Thank you for trusting me to be part of your journey. This beautiful gesture reminded me just how special this work is. ❤️

Starting #TeacherAppreciationDay strong by serving up some @timhortonUS to the teachers at our adopted school, Avondale Elementary!
My 6th grade teacher was Mr. Bamrick. He taught me how to speak in front of an audience, and to believe in myself, two skills that helped me immensely as I grew up.
We kept in touch via video chat and visits.
Sadly, Mr. Bamrick passed away last fall, and I miss him.
Thinking of him today, and all teachers who empower students.

Most teachers love what they do, but it’s a lot easier to do “the teaching stuff” when they feel supported.

I am not exaggerating when I say that I would not have survived middle school (we called it junior high back then) or high school without a handful of supportive teachers. I was horribly bullied, our family was poor, and my dad was an ex-POW with PTSD and a hair-trigger temper.
At school, I had teachers who took notice and took an interest. In particular, I will always be thankful for four high school teachers: Mademoiselle Sato (my French teacher, who was interned at Minidoka as a teen), Jennifer Delaney (theatre), Diane Edginton (speech/debate) and Ron Gerard (civics). Without them, I would not be here. Period.
