Zum Trans* Day of Visibility (Trans* Tag der Sichtbarkeit) fanden sich vorgestern Nachmittag rund 70 trans* Personen und Allies bei Sonne, Wind und einem bunten Fahnenmeer zu einem gemeinsamen Picknick am Bootshafen zusammen. 🌞🏳️⚧️ Neben einem leckeren Buffet, Spielen und guter Musik gab es Redebeiträge, vorgelesene Buchausschnitte und Zitate, in welchen auf verschiedene Aspekte der Sichtbarkeit von trans* Personen hingewiesen und auch persönliche Erfahrungen geteilt wurden.
Außerdem nutzten die Besucher*innen der Veranstaltung die Möglichkeit, eine große trans* Flagge mit Kommentaren und Zitaten zu bemalen, um stärkende und positive Botschaften von und für die trans* Community zu hinterlassen.
Nach etwa zweieinhalb Stunden endete mit Sinken der Sonne und Temperatur zwar die Veranstaltung, doch nicht unsere Sichtbarkeit! Egal ob laut oder leise, kämpferisch oder entspannt, wütend, traurig, fröhlich, jung oder alt—wir stehen zusammen und sagen mit Recht: Trans* sein ist wunderschön!⚧️🏳️⚧️🫂🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵

While Trans Day of Visibility 🏳️⚧️ is technically 3/31, we would benefit from recognizing our trans siblings, neighbors, colleagues more often. And I will publicly be proud throughout the year as long as bigots are out here attacking people. (Believe there are at least 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills under consideration throughout the U.S. right now.)
One thing to note: You can’t know someone is trans by looking at them. Also, “passing” as man or woman isn’t necessarily a goal for the trans person.

In March we have observed the International Sex Workers’ Rights Day,¹ International Women’s Day,² and Trans Day of Visibility.
For the Trans Day of Visibility, ESWA has joined the video campaign of TGEU - Transgender Europe and Central Asia, centering trans voices talking about the invisibilised aspects of their lives. To highlight intersections between sex workers’ rights and trans rights, sex worker’s rights activist Ines Anttila and ESWA Director of Communication and Campaigns Wszebor Sienkiewicz sent their contributions. You can see the campaign videos on TGEU’s instagram.
Thank you everyone who joined the premiere and live stream of the community video on what sex workers wish the world knew. Being together, even in this small capacity, made the International Sex Workers’ Day on March 3rd special. For those of you who missed the video, check it out on ESWA YouTube.¹

Me and the spouse decided after a crummy day, we might as well have gotten pizza for our trans selves. There's a cute spot on South Street called Blazerz and their mascot is a cloud with pink eyes. They threw in a free branded lighter with our napkins... Straightest thing about me is still my edge but they know their intended audience. ¿Sabían que el Día Internacional de la Visibilidad Transgénero, celebrado cada 31 de marzo, no nació como una conmemoración histórica de hace décadas, sino como una iniciativa digital en 2009 para contrarrestar la narrativa centrada exclusivamente en la tragedia? 🏳️⚧️
La activista estadounidense Rachel Crandall, cofundadora de la organización Transgender Michigan, impulsó esta fecha ante la observación de que la única festividad dedicada a la comunidad en aquel momento era el Día de la Memoria Trans (20 de noviembre). Esta última se enfoca en recordar a las víctimas de crímenes de odio, por lo que Crandall propuso crear un espacio que celebrara la vida, los logros y la presencia activa de las personas trans en la sociedad, utilizando las primeras redes sociales para difundir la convocatoria a nivel global. 🌎
La fecha del 31 de marzo fue seleccionada para no interferir con las conmemoraciones del Orgullo LGBT de junio ni con el Día de la Memoria en noviembre. Desde su creación, la observancia ha crecido hasta obtener reconocimiento oficial por parte de instituciones internacionales y gobiernos; en 2021, la administración de Joe Biden emitió la primera proclamación presidencial en la historia de los Estados Unidos para reconocer formalmente este día. Schade, dass sie auf dem ersten Bild groß die Gesichter von Rowling, Trump und Schwarzer präsentiert. Um deren Sichtbarkeit muss man sich ja leider nicht sorgen, und schon gar nicht ausgerechnet heute. Ich vermisse da so'n bisschen das strategische Fingerspitzengefühl.
