  16. This might become a bit tedious, but I'm checking it most days anyway. Kind of like a bot feed, but I'm the bot.

    #TCorBor today: magnitude 10.2

  17. NB: the magnitude-reporting page for the star T Coronae Borealis is working properly again, in case you're curious to click it occasionally

I tend to peek at it most days – its magnitude drifts between 9 and 11 at this point.

Some day soon(?) it's supposed to surge up to a M2 but don't bet your nest egg on a particular date.

It's a good seven months or so overdue based on the predictions. I'm guessing 2026 myself, but we'll see!

  18. The compact white #dwarf has an immense gravitational pull, so great that it steals material away from its larger neighbour.

"The #gravity on the surface of the white dwarf is a million times the gravity we feel on Earth, so if we stood on it, we would be crushed instantly"

The material it grabs from the other star gets crushed and compressed - until eventually it triggers a nuclear #explosion, releasing 💥 a huge amount of energy bbc.com/news/articles/c140exem
