Riding my bike to work first time after tropical cyclone Alfred. Footpaths, which generally are poorly maintained in Gold Coast, are now also blocked in places by broken branches. The side of the road, where a footpath has been missing for 20 years (this road is an only access to 2000+ homes), is blocked by fallen trees in some places.
Bonus: an Audi running a red light.

I'm really glad I didn't need anything in my cyclone prep kit other than gaffa tape, but there sure is a lot of stuff I need to return to its rightful place. Pole lopper and garden tools don't really suit the living room. Also have to remember where I stashed stuff in "safe places" outside. #tcalfred

First day of regular public transport in Gold Coast after tropical cyclone Alfred. 58k homes still without electricity in South East Queensland (SEQ).

Back in Mudjimba again this morning before my flight.
Bit of erosion, but nothing too serious. Also somewhat amazingly there's basically no signs that anything out of the ordinary happened on the drive up—no damage or standing water, just a very full Maroochy River.

Watching videos and reading articles about people who are ripping up carpeting (some of my friends included) and having to replace furniture because of the effects of #TCAlfred #Alfred and the subsequent storms and massive rainfall and thinking...this is just becoming the norm. People just going oh well, at least no one was hurt.
WTF is wrong with people? Of course people are HURT. This costs every single one of us.
WHY AREN'T WE DOING ANYTHING AT ALL TO STOP THIS #CLIMATECATASTROPHE?

Going through all of the many, many reports on #TCAlfred #Alfred and current #flooding in Queensland and none of them include maps of the locations in question. I have no idea where most of these places are, so a map overview would be very helpful.
Even looking at the Brisbane City Council flood maps - they aren't current. There are no "live" maps available, from what I've found.
How on earth are people in the locations managing to work out what's going on?

After managing to avoid major effects from ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred the rain finally found us overnight. Emptied 230mm out of the rain gauge this morning.

Normally you can tell where the thunderstorms in Brisbane are by just looking at the Radar map - where there’s rain looking angry and moving quickly, there’s the thunderstorm. But the radar is a constant moving band of rain with #cyclonealfred #TCAlfred, so it’s impossible to distinguish thunderstorm from rain depression. I’m just gonna assume everything is severe thunderstorm today.

Still raining in northern Gold Coast. We lost electricity for 20 hours. Some people are without electricity since Wednesday. Mobile internet is still not working. Water level in the nearby pond is higher than usual. Some broken tree branches. No public transport tomorrow.

The @CARROT weather app has a lot of fun achievements, including cow dodger. You get it for “Find an area with an active tornado or hurricane hazard”. I was waiting to see if being in the cyclone warning area would tick it off but no ☹️

After an at-times still night where I live, #TCAlfred was downgraded twice & is now Tropical Low (ex-cyclone), yet to pass over the coast, 55-85km/h winds at centre, no gales.
Biggest total power outage in over a decade (250k places) nearer the coast, & now all about rain, flooding & soft ground. -
Cyclone has passed with widespread damage and power outages across the region but not to the extent it could have been had it gone directly over Brisbane.
I wonder how long it will be until I see the first post online by someone not impacted complaining govt overreacted and unnecessary closures.

Alright, I didn't really sleep much and the wind sounded pretty intense at some point, but we got out of #TCAlfred pretty well.
Water damage in the garage, but we were expecting that to happen.
Rains are still to come apparently, but at least the wind will be less stressful. 😀

OK, I assume the power will go out at some point, likely sometime tomorrow morning.
What do people plan to do to entertain themselves and the family? Board games? I definitely will set up a chess board at some point. 😀
Any awesome ideas to keep everyone distracted?
