Voting is a suggestion. It's basically the equivalent of a bouncer saying, "hey buddy, now would be a good time to leave." It can be ignored. If a bouncer gives up after a suggestion, they're a shitty bouncer.

A bouncer should start knowing the whole escalation path they might take, from suggestions, to pressure points, to physical violence. You also have an escalation path. Perhaps you're already carrying out simple sabotage or other resistance. This is like a bouncer gently pushing towards the door to make the suggestion more persuasive. Sometimes this is enough.

Sometimes belligerent assholes ignore simple persuasion. If you aren't expecting that, you aren't really preparing.

You should consider your next moves. #Boycott or economic blackout, #GeneralStrike, and #TaxStrike are escalations. Get in the streets and stay there. This is like a bouncer putting someone's arm behind their back and moving them.

Sometimes people try to slip out of that and fight back. Imagine if a bouncer just let themself get pummeled because they weren't ready, even after the belligerent asshole telegraphed it. A lot of bouncers take martial arts, not because they use it as a first response but because they want to be ready for those edge cases.

Armed revolution is like a bouncer getting down to brawl and calling in their buddy with the zip ties and bear mace. It's not something anyone starts with, or anyone wants to escalate to, but some people can't take a hint and are incapable of doing what's best for everyone.

Always know your next step (even if you hope you don't have to take it).

Imagine if a bouncer was just like, "oh, I asked him nicely but he told me to fuck off. I guess the creep who's punching random people and pissing in the corner runs the bar now."

  6. #NoKings is great. I know there's plenty of room for criticism, but it does present a really good opportunity to network with other people who want to do something.

That said, if your whole plan is "I'm gonna hold a sign until something changes" you're in for some really bad news.

Protesting is symbolic. You are begging people in power to (please, please, please) change things. It literally does not matter how many of you there are, they do no actually have to care. The only way to make them care is to fuck with the money.

America, like all dictatorships, runs on money. Nothing is going to change unless you interrupt the money.

While Trump is doing a pretty good job of that himself (especially with the current war), things will have to get a *lot* worse before they get better unless you are *doing something.*

#BlackOutTheSystem is one group that's trying to do something (blackoutthesystem.com/).

There are 3 things that are far more important than (almost) any protest, 3 things that force change, 3 types of direct action to that are the types of escalation we need *right now.*

    #Boycott
    #GeneralStrike
    #TaxStrike

If your escalation path is just "let's go walk around more with signs" then it's not enough. They absolutely must include at least one, if not more, of these things...

  7. CW: Uspol, Iran, taxes

If you don't like them shooting these very expensive missiles that cost more than your annual health care at people in other countries, maybe don't pay your taxes this year to take away some of their money.

    #TaxStrike #Tax #Taxes

  8. CW: Americans How to Fight Back, uspol

Don't pay. Withhold payment. Keep their money from them. This is nonviolent. Everyone, your neighbors, your coworkers, the people on the bus can all participate. This is how we can all act.

    How?
Stop paying federal income tax to challenge this unconstitutional government.

    - Stop Tax Payment Now: Delay your decision to pay income tax until April 2026. Pay less or not at all.
    - Support the Penalty Fund: Help others — contribute to the War Resisters Penalty Fund for those who face penalties for striking.
    - Spread the Word: Join our community. Talk to others — discuss the strike with your community and elected leaders.

  9. Maybe you all will be ready to get your friends and families onboard with a #TaxStrike next year 🙄

  10. CW: USA taxes, pedophiles

I really believe that if I just write on the voided zeroed check that I'm sending to the government for my taxes this year that "I will not pay taxes to pedophiles," I think I'll be excused when it gets to court.

    #TaxStrike #Taxes #epsteinfiles

  11. I'm getting a lot of 'nah' on #TaxStrike as a nonviolent action folks can take. Everyone really that afraid of the IRS? 🤨

  12. We can no longer reliably extrapolate from long-standing precedent about how the government operates, or how it responds to tax resisters, to anticipate the near future.

While past tax policy changes have been slow, gradual, and predictable, near-future changes are likely to be abrupt, arbitrary, and unstable.

This presents American tax resisters with new challenges but also new opportunities.

  13. There are a lot of takeaways from this:
    1. Organizing locally gives you a massive advantage because you will always know your local area better than ICE ever can.
    2. Be agile. You can always change tactics faster than a centralized organization.
    3. Organize now. The sooner you build your networks, the sooner you can learn.
    4. Identify ICE facilities and organize monitoring them directly.

But I think the most interesting one that's not explicitly in there, one that's hinted at the last one, is to go on the offensive. ICE is already afraid. If we all take the anger we have at the murder of #ReneGood, find the local ICE facility that they'll stage from, and bring that anger to #OccupyICE we might be able to just shut the whole thing down preemptively. Completely stop all ICE operations across the US. If they want to fight, they can fight *with everyone, all at once.*

Shut down their ability to operate at all. They have a logistics pipeline. They need cars, they need oil in those cars, they need to be able to move those cars to target areas. They also need money to pay those agents. All of those can be disrupted.

The regime needs your money and labor to maintain the illusion of legitimacy. They chose a bad time because you can hit both of those at once *right now* with a combination of #GeneralStrike and #TaxStrike, and then #BoycottEverything.

The regime is weaker than it's ever been. It's flailing. Their own base is demanding the release of the #EpsteinFiles. Their last gasp attempt to prevent the radical change that's coming is just to ethnically cleanse the US back to the 50's (which is what they always meant by "Make America Great Again"). Trump will do anything to stay in power, even if it means killing everyone on Earth in the process. But Americans can end it now by going on the offensive.

    Now is the time.

  14. Reminder to not pay your federal or state taxes this year. Cut off more of the money they need to keep the machine grinding

    #TaxStrike #GeneralStrike #taxes

  15. Hey, we're all doing the #GeneralStrike on the 23rd in our home cities too, and getting the word out now, right?

#Ice is in your home City too, not just #Minneapolis.

    #ICEOut #Uspol #strike #taxstrike

  16. I wonder how I might slip in subliminal messages for the upcoming #TaxStrike?

  17. I know it was super popular to cancel your subscription to #Disney over #JimmyKimmel, but has anyone considered cancelling their subscription to "pay for the occupation of US cities and send weapons to Israel to use on children in #Gaza"? Because cancelling that one would send an even bigger message. Just a thought....

  18. Ok, blue states. Time to get your leaders to meet up with Gavin Newsom and get the ball rolling on a blue state tax strike. Get on your phones and let your governors know it’s time. #strike #taxstrike #blue #civildisobedience

  19. You know, if Americans are tired of paying for genocide there is a way to stop. It's called a #TaxStrike The right has so gutted the IRS that it would be completely unable to respond to any large scale and organized strike.

The legal effects you would experience by using your privilege are definitely less bad for you than anything that's happening to people in #Gaza or #Lebenon right now. And really, the legal consequences are much safer than the nuclear that #Israel will almost definitely start as they continue to expand tensions.

But that's assuming legal consequences at all. Some quakers have been successfully resisting taxes for decades on religious grounds. There are people who simply tie up the IRS in court. The cost of legal fees is about the same as paying taxes, but the money goes to pay a person to fight the system instead of paying for bombs to drop on children.

I'm kind of surprised more people aren't talking about this.

Edit: this is a much better resource on the actual consequences than my assessment:
    nwtrcc.org/resist/consequences

And this is info about the history of it and resources on how to actually do it
    nwtrcc.org/resist/war-tax-resi

Edit 2: since this has been boosted a lot, I want to make it 100% clear that this is a collective strategy. You have to talk about it, convince other people to do it, make it clear that it's going to happen, probably even pick a day. This post is not saying "go do this tomorrow," it's intended to open a conversation.
