  1. I have not thought of this before, but it makes sense. Out of all the things we expect our government to do with our taxpayer's money (of which there are so many that are silly), why should we be complicit in financing conduct that is patently unconstitutional? This sounds like a good means of checking the government.

Tax Day was yesterday, but there is always another year, and another year.

  3. Important to stress: if, at some point after several years of #taxResistance the IRS _does_ decide to actively pursue you for the money, *you will owe several times as much as your original tax debt.*
You may be able to negotiate away some of it, but maybe not.
We can speculate that the IRS *probably* won't come after you for the money, but it's not certain.
Tax resistance may still be a reasonable thing to do, especially given our current government, but you do need to be aware of the risk.

  4. UPDATE: I've confirmed that the threshold of $25k over ten years below which the #IRS probably won't come after your money *** includes any interest and penalties that have accrued ***, so the math is a lot more complicated than just paying $2,500 less than you owe each year.
The interest rate the IRS charges on back taxes is variable, so if you want to get as close as possible to that $25k limit spread out over the ten years, you have to adjust how much you don't pay each year.

  5. This is not financial or legal or tax advice, but for those who are curious, here is some of what I think I've learned in researching U.S. federal #taxResistance, i.e., refusing to pay some or all of your federal income taxes because what the government is doing is immoral and you don't want to support it.
nwtrcc.org/ is a good starting point, though I didn't find all the below information there (it may be there, but I couldn't find it). (1/11)

  6. We can no longer reliably extrapolate from long-standing precedent about how the government operates, or how it responds to tax resisters, to anticipate the near future.

While past tax policy changes have been slow, gradual, and predictable, near-future changes are likely to be abrupt, arbitrary, and unstable.

This presents American tax resisters with new challenges but also new opportunities.

  7. Today I am starting the conversation with my wife about tax resistance. I am not sure we can in good conscience keep giving the U.S. federal government our money.
(This has to be a joint decision since we file jointly and therefore any risk we take on by not paying is shared equally by both of us.)

  8. I've been posting here about #taxresistance and other approaches to #softsecession

MAGA makes plain that it doesn't represent those whose political views differ from the president's and, in fact, POTUS has said explicitly and repeatedly that his govt is fighting a war against the enemy within.

There is no longer any moral basis to this government's claim on our sovereignty.

As long as this usurpation continues, we must resolve to #defundfascism in whatever ways possible.

  9. Governor Newsom knows.

When a tyrant has told you he will no longer represent you, but will instead starve you of federal support AND garrison his troops in your cities…well, the AMERICAN way of responding to that bullshit is well known.

  10. If you're a U.S. taxpayer, and you'd like to know how to stop paying for this shit, you can learn from the war tax resisters, who have been refusing to pay taxes for decades.

"As 2023 ends, I’ve been asking myself: How much money am I, personally, contributing to Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories and its attack on Gaza?
