If you are unfamiliar with #VITA, you should absolutely give it a look come tax time in the new year. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offers completely free income tax preparation services to anyone making $67,000 or less per year.
And, insider tip, the rule is actually that the average for all of the returns prepared by a particular VITA program needs to be below the threshold. That means that if your local VITA prepares a lot of returns for people who make below the threshold (as does the one I am associated with), they can probably help you even if you make well over $67,000!

The #IRS #DirectFile program has saved #taxpayers millions of dollars and made filing quick & convenient. Losing the program at this point would be a travesty. #US taxpayers need to be liberated from the predations of incompetent tax prep companies. Tax prep charges too much and makes too many mistakes.

PSA for Americans: you don't need to pay someone to file your taxes if you don't want to. The the #IRS provides a free option to prepare and file your taxes.
I've never once paid to file my taxes (and when I've lived in states that try to steer me toward private tax prep services, I mail in paper forms out of spite)

Every year, Americans spend billions on #TaxPrep services, paying a heavily concentrated industry of giant, wildly profitable firms to send the #IRS information it already has. When tax season comes around, all the for-profit tax prep companies will start bombarding you with the "save this or that by having us prep your taxes" crap. But if your taxes are relatively simple, you can get your taxes prepped FREE via CashApp. I did mine that way last year, and I'm doing it again this year. Tax prep should ALWAYS be free.
