I’m all in favour of #TaxingTheRich, but such a policy cannot sustain a campaign that would get the #electorates on their feet and out into the street.

i am not a political party strategist but I think that more *radical* and progressive policies need to be workshopped to garner support before any launch onto the public if the public is to be motivated to action. And taxing the rich isn’t going to cut it there.

  2. Don’t let #Grifters and those they’ve *bought* tell you that nationalisation is a *communist* threat. Of course they would say that, they have a lot at stake in #StateCapture. And the now more than 40yo #NeoLiberal (neo-classical) economy is predicated on deregulated markets (especially financial markets) and globalisation.

But *everything* in a *Social Democracy* is **Publicly owned** until it is bought or acquired by a private individual or a corporation. Hence, every private enterprise operates on the basis of an assumed social licence. That license can be revoked at any time.

Govt (public wealth) subsidies and bailouts ought to be offset by assets transfers to public ownership, anything else is weatlh transfers to the #Rich and #Wealthy of the #RentierClass exacerbating the #WealthEquity gap in society. How else can this gap be breached if not by #TaxingTheRIch or #Nationalisation of failing enterprises, especially where public infrastructure is concerned.

‘An equal and habitable world is possible’: academics set out sweeping vision for planetary survival

Global report provides an alternative to climate breakdown, political extremism and economic tensions

    Thu 4 Jun 2026

Excerpt: "[The plan] offers a set of bold policy proposals, including hefty #WealthTaxes on #billionaires, sharp reductions in working hours, a change in diets and a shift of investment from materially intense sectors like industry and #mining to education and health.

    [...]

"This 'plan for equality and prosperity within planetary boundaries' is the product of 45 authors based on databases compiled by more than 200 researchers from the world.

"At its core is the concept of sufficiency – the idea that people can enjoy a prosperous, healthy life without constantly striving to consume or accumulate more #MaterialPossessions that degrade the #NaturalWorld on which all life depends.

"To achieve this, the authors envisage three steps: more than halving average working time from 2,100 hours a year to 1,000 hours, roughly equivalent to a two-and-a-half-day working week; encouraging people to #EatLessRedMeat, which is the main driver of deforestation and ecological destruction; and refocusing the economy toward #LowConsumption activities by more than doubling #Education spending to €8,400 euros (£7,250) a person and #healthcare spending to 14,400 euros.

"Piketty said: 'One extra euro of GDP in education and health has three to four times less material footprint and energy consumption than one extra euro of GDP in the manufacturing sector. So that’s why the sectoral shifts are hugely important.' "

  4. Well I certainly didn't have #BrianEno coming out in support of #TaxingTheRich on my bingo card but he's not wrong and his timing is perfect.

  5. New #Oxfam inequality report just dropped! 😡

    "Survival of the Richest"

"We are living through an unprecedented moment of multiple crises... #Poverty has increased for the first time in 25 years. At the same time, ...The very richest have become dramatically richer and corporate profits have hit record highs, driving an explosion of #inequality. This report focuses on how #TaxingTheRich is vital to addressing this unprecedented polycrisis and skyrocketing inequality."
