Tatum O’Neal won an Oscar at age 10, then went through abuse (from her father, Ryan O’Neal), divorce (from tennis superstar John McEnroe) and addiction (to alcohol, cocaine, and heroin), becoming, @Variety says, “a symbol, a cautionary tale, about child actors and the demons that can haunt them.” After an overdose and stroke in May 2020, she relearned to walk and talk — and regained the will to survive. She talked to Kate Aurthur about all of it.
