By #MiCoTra 🇦🇹🇮🇹 train, taking the bike on board, on the way to a cycling tour starting in #Tarvisio. The 🚴‍♂️ trail mostly follows the trackbed of the former railway line. The old Tarvisio Centrale station board still stands, and there are, obviously ( 🇮🇹❗️) plenty of spots to stop for a coffee break. ❤️

Bedingt durch die aktuelle RFI-Brennersperre verkehrt ein RJ-Zugpaar zwischen #München 🇩🇪 und #Venezia 🇮🇹 ab #Wörgl 🇦🇹 derzeit über Schwarzach St. Veit und #Tarvisio. Dabei bietet sich wieder die seltene Gelegenheit mit dem Railjet 2 durchs Val Canale zu fahren. Wegen zusätzlichen Bauarbeiten fährt das Zugpaar außerdem über die Umfahrungsschleife in Villach.

Picture of an #ÖBB 🇦🇹 Class 1016 #Taurus, still sporting the #Pflatsch logo when I took this photo, one evening in July 2002. This is a regional service originating at #Villach and heading south, to either #Arnoldstein and #Tarvisio 🇮🇹 or #Rosenbach and possibly #Jesenice 🇸🇮.

Viel Regionalverkehr gibt es nicht auf der #Pontebbana zwischen #Tarvisio Boscoverde und Carnia(/Udine), die wegen dem Bahntrassenradweg aber ein beliebtes Freizeitziel geworden ist.

Statt den CAF-Triebwagen kommen nun vermehrt lokespannte Wendezüge zum Einsatz mit einem eigenen umgebauten Fahrradwaggon - nicht umsonst, wie sich schnell erkennen lässt.

Warmbad #Villach 🇦🇹 station, the other day: a southbound intermodal, hauled by a pair of #ÖBB Class 1293 #Siemens #Vectron electrics, is passing through. About one kilometre further down, at Auen Abzw. fork, the line splits into the #Tarvisio 🇮🇹 and #Jesenice 🇸🇮 branches.

A former #Vienna 🇦🇹 S-Bahn #Schnellbahn 4030.200 unit (with Scharfenberg couplers) is seen here near Warmbad #Villach in September 1989, probably working a service from #Tarvisio Centrale 🇮🇹. Cab-car (driving-trailer) 6010.231 is leading. These trains were built in the 1960s and early 1970s.

#FS 🇮🇹 electric 645-104 is seen here with a freight train at #Tarvisio Centrale yard in summer 1989. This section of the #Pontebbana line is no longer in use: it has been transformed into a cycling trail. The new alignment of the railway passes on the other side of the valley.

I’ve taken this photo in the summer of 1989. It cannot be repeated: This section of the #Pontebbana line closed in 2000 (and has since been transformed into a cycling trail). There is now a new station called “Tarvisio Boscoverde” on the other side of the valley.

#ÖBB 🇦🇹 class 1044.202 electric, featuring the so-called”chessboard livery, is seen here under “Italian” built catenary (but still with “Austrian” 15 kV AC power supply): I’ve taken this picture in 1989 at #Tarvisio Centrale 🇮🇹. This used to be the border station until 2000: at this point in time the railway line was upgraded (i.a. double tracked) and moved to the other side of the valley to the, then new, station named “Tarvisio Boscoverde”.

Warmbad #Villach 🇦🇹 in #Austria‘s very South. A nicely preserved building along a busy railway line to #Tarvisio 🇮🇹 and #Jesenice 🇸🇮. The train station is dwarfed by the adjacent thermal spa complex: its presence generates a substantial part of the passenger traffic by rail here.

A “Nachschuss” on #ÖBB 🇦🇹 unit 4130.01 in museum livery: this is the evening service from #Tarvisio 🇮🇹 to #Villach. Picture taken in summer 1989, at the northern end of Thörl- Maglern station. The line was still single track and full of old railway infrastructure.

#Eurocity #Romulus leaving #Tarvisio Centrale on its way from #Vienna 🇦🇹 to #Rome 🇮🇹. An #FS class 656 locomotive is in charge of the train as far as Venice Mestre.
