Ach schau die Tara 2 ist auch hier. Eine schöne Erinnerung, wie wir ihr vor einiger Zeit den Weg ins arktische Eis bereitet hatten, wo sie dann von alleine ins offene Meer zurück gestiftet ist. A floating igloo leaves France for a polar exploration mission.

The Tara Polar Station set out from France on Sunday to begin a long-term mission to study biodiversity in the Arctic.

The floating laboratory, shaped like an igloo, is designed to withstand sea-ice pressure and to endure temperatures as low as -52º.

A floating laboratory will uncover the secrets of the Arctic winter.

The Tara Polar Station, a €20 million research vessel with a crew of 12, will drift across the Arctic ice to enable better monitoring of a rapidly changing environment.

Construction, which began in 2023 and was funded mostly by the French government, is almost complete.
