Okay, so remember my last post about #Tamagotchi? No? Well, too bad. So I dug into the Tamagotchi lore and series because I am an inquisitive bastard and can't stop myself from researching sh!t I'm interested in. And oh my fucking god, I have stumbled across an insane rabbit-hole.
For one, the amount of Tamagotchi devices is just... fucking wild, and it just keeps going and going and going. Me with my single #TamagotchiON, the old Tamagotchi I have locked up in storage (really need to fish it out), and the Tamagotchi Original app (that's not longer available) is NOTHING compared to the insane amount of different Tamagotchi devices, in and outside of Japan.
Thirdly, I only thought the modding community focused on making custom shells and that's it. Yeah, no, I was wrong, very, very wrong. Some Tamagotchi devices are SUPER moddable. Like, with the Tamagotchi ON, because of it's Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) capabilities, people have found ways to make and send custom content to their devices. So, you can make custom rooms, accessories, and food, but that's not it. You can also make entirely custom Tamagotchi SPECIES, minigames, and even areas! Pretty much every aspect of gameplay is moddable, which is insane to me. No hard-modding required.
In fact, it's so easy that there are entire goddamn markets dedicated to selling custom Tamagotchi ON content. You can buy a custom Tamagotchi species for 16 bucks online. And yes, these custom species do in fact work with the ON's breeding mechanic. What a world.
But the ON isn't the only moddable device, but I'm not going to list them all since I don't know them off the top of my head, but the most recent example is insanely enough, the #TamagotchiParadise. Yeah, the Tamagotchi series that came out only a month ago? Someone already figured out how to add custom content to it, though it does require external wires since as far as I know, the Paradise doesn't have wireless functionality (gee, I wonder why).
Safe to say that the Tamagotchi Modding Community is actually cracked and I have massive respect for it.
