Armistead Maupin, author of my beloved "Tales of the City" books and screenplays, has had a blog for a few months.
This story was just published, about his very first gay experience in the summer of 1969. It's sweet. There are about 10 "episodes" so far, all of them in his signature storytelling style.
For all my fellow car enthusiasts, he included this photo with his Sunbeam Alpine.
When I reread Armistead Maupin's "TALES OF THE CITY," I always picture Elaine's Minneapolis apartment as the one owned by trans heroine Anna Madrigal, and home to the other characters in the series. After recovering from drug addiction in 1980s, Sam even had acting role as a Reverend on 1993 #PBS series #TalesOfTheCity shortly before recording a duet of "Rainy Night In Georgia" with country singer Conway Twitty.
#SamMoore fully supported #GOP and even collaborated with #LeeAtwater and #BobDole in 1990s, and appeared with Prez #DJT at #WhiteHouse in 2018 alongside Kid Rock, Mike Love and Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. Moore also admitted to fathering โ14 or 15 childrenโ but had relationships with only a few, claiming "some of them resent me or want me to pay for them."

I just finished reading Armistead Maupin's final book in The Tales of the City series, "Mona of the Manor", released this year.
The PBS presentation of "Tales" triggered my journey to being the huge queen I am today.
It's delightful, reuniting Mona, Michael, Anna Madrigal, and others
We meet a battered southern woman accepted by a LGBTQ+ family, a transphobic lesbian, and an English manor house.

Reading Tales of the City for the first time. It is undoubtedly very good and enjoyable. That said, itโs nothing like as โfunโ as everyoneโs made it out to be.
Reminds me a lot of Withnail and I.
I've loved Laura Linney ever since the PBS showing of Tales of the City in the 90s.

Finishing Mona of the Manor: Armistead Maupin made another clear statement against #TERFs in his newest book of the #TalesOfTheCity series and said about it in an interview: >>Heโs particularly annoyed about progressives who arenโt on board with trans rights. โYou donโt divorce that portion of the movement. Just finished Armistead Maupinโs final #TalesOfTheCity book, Mona of the Manor.
Iโve loved all his books and this was easy enough for me to get into, stay engaged and finishโฆwhich canโt be said for many of the books piled up by my bed!
Those who loved the quick, quirky pace of the earlier books may find this slightly more leisurely. Itโs good to catch up with Mona though in a way that manages to be silly, warm hearted and serious at the same time. The 90โs were brilliant and terrifying.

Here is my 1/4 of the way through review of #MonaOfTheManor (the new book in the #TalesOfTheCity series) by Armistead Maupin. I will be carefully avoiding spoilers but will be sharing a few things of a more general nature
1. This book is classic Armistead, with lots of twists and turns.
2. The best I can tell, the book I think is set around 1993. This timing is especially important because this is a short time before the widespread availability of the #AIDS cocktail of drugs that began to turn the tide of the epidemic. The book depicts well the terror of these days, but also the fact that #Queer folks kept living their lives with as much dignity and joy as they could muster.

#MonaOfTheManor, the 10th volume of #ArmisteadMaupin's #TalesOfTheCity series is supposed to be released on March 5th (tomorrow).
I already have it preordered on Audible and supposedly it will be listenable on March 5, but my question is --- which time zone are they going with as the time to turn it on (and can I game the system by using a VPN to access the book sooner)? I've tried this once (so that I had an Australian IP address where it already is Mar 5), but no luck.
So... if any #TOTC fans figure out a way to get the book sooner, please speak up because I'm chomping at the bit to read this next installment of my favorite series of books. --- And I'm planning to buy the ebook too, so if anyone has luck getting access to the ebook today, please speak up!
And always, eternal gratitude must always be extended to Armistead for creating characters that I care about so much, and for humanizing #LGBTQ people in literature, before most were ready to do so.

Recently decided to re-watch Tales Of The City which I originally saw when I was in college in '94. It had been so long that most of the plot points were gone. It's streaming several places like PlutoTV.
I don't think I ever saw any of the follow up series. I was looking at the dates for More Tales... and it aired the summer before I moved to Atlanta so I was at home job hunting but that means I did have access to Showtime. Not sure if didn't know it was on or what happened.
It's not streaming anywhere legit and the used DVDs are ridiculously priced so thanks to whoever uploaded it to YouTube.
Honestly I find it more relatable this round than years ago. I may break down and read the books.

A more diverse cast and writing team brought to life this long-awaited continuation of the 1993-2001 set of limited-run TV series based on Armistead Maupin's novels. Maupin's stories dealt with a mix of gay, lesbian, bi, trans, straight and cis characters who formed a family of choice while living in a house in San Francisco.
In the revival, whose plot was original to the Netflix series, all new trans roles were cast with trans or enby actors and there was greater racial diversity than in the earlier TV incarnations.

The third of Armistead Maupin's quirky TALES OF THE CITY novels, with its array of LGBT characters, finally made it to TV as a miniseries almost a decade after the first TALES miniseries.
Once again, the TV outlet with the most money in the project was Britain's Channel 4. PBS had pulled out of the franchise years earlier, so Showtime cable was the show's U.S. outlet.
