Maine residents will vote this November on whether to create the first statewide consumer-owned utility in the country.
They're facing skyrocketing electricity bills and frequent power outages, while the corporate utilities (CMP and Versant) that dominate the state brought in $187 million in profit last year. Both the companies are owned by foreign entities.
Residents are organizing to take power back into their own hands — literally. A ballot measure on the November ballot could create the consumer-owned utility non-profit Pine Tree Power, and put it under community control.We talked with residents about what this would mean for them.

The late civil rights champion and Congressional Rep, John Lewis has always been a personal hero. He suffered many things and even been jailed.
He encouraged people to be "Good Trouble" to create nessesary change. When one is suppressed, censored or wrongfully punished to silence, they must be doing something right.
Account suspension on a certain instance by "white" attitudes with power, seems to be a small example of this. Thank you for the acknowledgement of my being "Good Trouble". Other advocates have been suspended by the same as well.
