Zulip is a wonderful blend of the good old forums' ability to keep information accessible, and Discord's fast-paced formula; the way it's organised and displayed to the user is fairly unique and slightly alien, but it presents an amazing opportunity to sort and organise the discussions in your community space.

You know how the Discord threads are kind of useless?

The High Court has BLOCKED the deportation of migrants to France, striking a major blow to Keir Starmer’s so-called “returns deal.” Another promise broken, another chance for real control stolen from the British people.

How many times must we watch judges, lawyers, and activists step in to protect everyone but us? We were promised strong borders, we were promised fairness, and instead, we get endless legal roadblocks while our communities carry the cost.

🇬🇧 When will Britain finally catch a break from this endless tide of migrants?

Another headline today: Keir Starmer’s migrant returns deal faces down a legal challenge less than 24 hours before the first deportation flight. Once again, the will of the British people is being blocked, stalled, and watered down.

We’ve had enough of being ignored. We voted for secure borders. We voted to take back control. Yet time and time again, the courts, the lawyers, the activists, and the politicians put everyone else’s rights before the rights of the people who built this nation.

We are told endlessly that Britain must bend over backwards, while our communities shoulder the strain, our services stretched, our culture undermined, our voices dismissed. All the while, those who claim to lead us pose for cameras and make empty promises, while they fly in more and more people who have no loyalty to our way of life.

It is not “xenophobic” to want fairness. It is not “racist” to want our children safe, our streets orderly, our sovereignty respected. It is British common sense. And yet, we are branded as the villains simply for daring to say what millions think.

Britain deserves leaders who stand up for her people, not for Brussels, not for foreign courts, not for NGOs. We deserve the right to defend our borders and to choose who enters our land. We are a proud nation with centuries of history, not a dumping ground for the failures of global politics.

Enough is enough. 🇬🇧✊

One of the things I've been advocating for years - and where I want to raise my voice even louder - is the importance of owning your data. #OwnYourData

Over the past few days, I’ve come across two examples of how misinformation is causing immense damage, leading people to believe that there's no alternative but to hand over their data to big corporations, putting themselves entirely in their hands.

- A well-known lawyer, just before a meeting, warned about using Teams and its new "virtual assistant," which joins conferences before anyone else and transcribes everything. When I pointed out that it would be wise to use alternative tools (like Jitsi, for example, but there are others), he abruptly ended the conversation, saying, "We've lost this war. There's no alternative anymore."
That wasn’t the right moment for a detailed discussion, so I just noted that alternatives do exist - but if no one starts using them, and if we passively accept certain behaviors from certain companies, things will never improve for us.

- Just now, I received another one of those emails that hurt more in the heart than in the wallet: "Our e-commerce is taking off, so we’re moving it to Shopify to better manage our growth."
I replied, trying to explain that handing over a growing e-commerce business to a third-party company (right now, they have full access to their own server - meaning all their databases, data, etc., are under their control) means losing ownership of it. Prices could change at any moment, contract terms could shift negatively, and, worst case scenario, if Shopify itself faced issues (which seems impossible today, but think of giants like Kodak), they could lose everything. Of course, they’ll do what they think is best, but I feel obligated to warn them.

Luckily, others are making the opposite choice. But I keep wondering: since these big platforms aren’t exactly cheap, rather than "selling themselves" to them just for (potentially) fewer headaches, wouldn’t it be worth paying someone (not me, of course, but someone working exclusively for them) to handle these things - ensuring they retain full ownership of their business and their data?

A couple more hours digging out the last compost in the right hand heap (it's got a paving slab floor, so I know when I've dug it all out), then shredding some of the brambles (until my shredder blocked because of convolvulus that went in with them). I'm now very hot and sweaty. Sweat running into bramble scratches is particularly unpleasant.

Ich finde dies eine ausgesprochen beunruhigende Nachricht! Netflix ist mir bisher mit seinen Filmen über die Schattenseiten des #Überwachungskapitalismus positiv aufgefallen: The Social Dilemma, The Billion Dollar Code, The Great Hack sind allesamt sehenswerte Filme bzw. Serien. Dass ein benutzerfinanzierter Dienst diese veröffentlicht, ergibt absolut Sinn. Wenn Netflix nun auch anfängt, Geld mit der Manipulation seiner Kunden zu verdienen, wird sich das natürlich ändern. Vielleicht sollten wir wirklich schön langsam über ein Verbot für benutzerangepasste Werbung nachdenken …
