Interesting results shown in the comparison in the linked article. In quite a few cases a single import, with duty and shipping to SA, is cheaper than Takealot in South Africa. I'm wondering how this will improve when Amazon opens its own warehouse in South Africa later in 2023, because then it won't be individual shipping imports any more.
But the big takeaway is that you do need to check, and weigh it up also with whether you may ever need warranty support. There are also many items you just cannot find at all inside South Africa.

I have waited three weeks for Takealot to get my solar panel pair in stock and ship them to my home. Today, the day they were to arrive, Takealot informed me instead that they had cancelled my order. They had the temerity to turn my money into a store credit. I prompty demanded a refund. I will not try them again for this purchase.

So #Takealot delivered an empty box to me, before Xmas! I'm still fighting with customer service to get them to understand that the product cannot be returned for a refund and was not defective! They litterally have become a corporate like all the rest, too big to handle situations outside of their SOPs. We literally in a loop now.

Newegg now ships to South Africa – Here is how it compares to Takealot
Although overall prices may balance you need to consider that importing an item can be quicker delivery than Takealot in many instances especially where Takealot does not have the product in stock at your closest warehouse, you may be limited by the SARS import limitations for non-registered importers, Newegg may have items in stock that you cannot easily find in South Africa, warranties may be an issue, Takealot does offer the option to collect after hours from decentralised depots.
I usually try to buy locally as my first option but if what I'm looking for is not available locally, or the price is a lot more, I end up importing. In general half of what I'm looking for, I import. So it is good to have another option for South Africans and I hope it helps Takealot especially also work on improving their speed of delivery a bit. Beware of rising prices on #BlackFriday - Huawei Mate 29 Lite at #takealot was R7, 999 and at 00:30 it was R8,499 and this morning R8,999. Probably stock but always compare carefully.
