I discovered that B. Watson (Urchlay) ported #Taipan to the #Atari8bit recently (2026). Obligatory screenshot below. It's still work-in-progress, but it's already pretty good.

I had wanted to port Taipan too, and I've posted elsewhere about my own feeble attempts. At least now, I can just enjoy playing the game on my Atari 800XL. :)

#Dinner tonight: in the last dinner I’ll be having with my better half for just under a fortnight, we BOTH tried #Taipan #MangoMadness Mild #Sauce on lamb sausages.

I was very disappointed. There’s mild & there’s MILD.

This sauce is MILD. It’s more like a chutney than anything else.

The better half said, “sweet, chutney - almost tasteless!”

I won’t be buying that sauce again.

Pocos recuerdan que #TaiPan es una novela que dió pie a una película que dio pie al videojuego. Básicamente un #Pirates! para #zxspectrum, pocos saben que fue el primer juego desarrollado inicialmente para los modelos de 128 Kb. Partiendo de esa versión, el juego se recortó para adaptarlo al Speccy de 48 Kb.

Today, I'm recommending another book by #JamesClavel, #TaiPan.
It is the second book in #Clavel's fantastic #AsianSaga.

It describes the rivalry of two English merchant families + their rise 2 power against the well-researched background of the #OpiumWars + #Hongkong's early colonial history.
It 1st got me interested in 🇨🇳.

I bought & read the earlier paperback version of the book Shogun (1975) written by #JamesClavell even before the 1st mini-series adaptation starring #RichardChamberlain aired on TV in 1980.

I also bought & read the 3 other books in Clavell's Asian Saga series, including #TaiPan & #KingRat (both made into so-so movies) & #NobelHouse (also made into a mini-series).

So, after watching the new mini-series of Shogun that just aired on FX/Hulu, I decided to buy the book again.

They were asking ridiculous prices for the 1975 edition so I bought a newly released version for less.

I'd forgotten how BIG a book it was (1123 pages in the version that I just received) which is quite daunting but I'll tackle it in small bites.

I just read the prologue (setting up Blackthorne's arrival in Japan) & a chapter the end of the book (just after Mariko's death) & they suggest that the current mini-series was written/filmed much closer to the way the book was written, which (as Martha says) "is a good thing."

Kennt sich jemand mit James #Clavell aus? Sollte man #Shogun im englischen Original lesen, oder ist die Übersetzung ins deutsche gelungen? Ich tue mich mit Übersetzungen mittlerweile schwer, weil die oft cringe sind, aber bei 1500 Seiten habe ich doch Respekt, das im Original anzugreifen…

Funny you should say so.
As you are studying history, you might know the historic novel of James Clavel, #TaiPan.
In Hong Kong, a business tycoon was (is?) called a #TaiPan.
And there, they believe a lot in luck. They call it "joss." As you mentioned it, yes, #TFG has had an extradinary streak of luck for decades.
Stochastics show, that these streaks will run out some time.
And yes, I think a colapse (maybe not the final one) is imminent. For one thing, I don't think..
