With the benefit of hindsight, I don’t think #Taibbi went anywhere. His writing on the housing/banking crisis was just the Putin anti-capitalism propaganda we wanted to hear at the time. -

There’s a lot “what happened to #Taibbi? What happened to #GlennGreenwald?” stuff on Nazi bird app. Accusations of grift and such. Stepping back: Setting oneself up on Substack and marketing one’s work is an enterprising path. And precedented: I.F. Stone ran his excellent weekly newsletter out of his home from 1953 to 1971.
But most of us are not Stone, and even he might have benefited from another editor, at least at a copy desk, even though he was famously careful.

That’s a precarious place to be. His reaction to having errors in his reporting pointed out since the #twitterfiles went live (and questions about his sourcing and independence) is to circle the wagons and conflate every criticism with the personal attacks. Bad place to be.

Not seeing anyone else talking about this, so I’ll give it a shot: A good #editor, especially a hard-nosed old-school news dog, would have handed #Taibbi this ass-whipping in a newsroom, not on television.
