3 cheers for #TAGC24! What a great meeting, and hats off to the organizers at all levels. Looks like I should have set aside an entire extra week to watch all the talks and look at all the posters I missed though.

Heading back home after this amazing #tagc24 Allied Genetics meeting in Washington D.C. First time I meet in person my lab mates and my first time in USA so far. It is always a humbling experience to see all the smart people and cool projects out there. Science is a global endeavour.

Gave a kind of scrap book talk for my Ira Herskowitz award lecture at #TAGC24. Really nice to think about all the awesome people I've gotten to work with on such cool science. I sat down and immediately thought of 3 people I forgot to mention 🙃 Love the yeast community!

Didn't get 1 minute of downtime at my #TAGC24 poster tonight and ended up talking to people for the full 2 hours instead of just my assigned time! Kind of sad to miss all the other posters I meant to go visit, but loved all the ideas and feedback I got on where to take our yEvo teaching lab.

The followup to this is that we got email later today saying that the concurrent session recordings would be available no later than Monday, which is after the meeting is over. From where I'm sitting, that means it's not actually a hybrid meeting at all, just one they're recording. #TAGC24

Saturday is a big day for the lab at #TAGC24. Postdoc Renee is up first in the Yeast Models and Technology session, presenting her deep mutational scan on G6PD at 11:00.

Okay wow so #TAGC24 was sold (literally sold, I paid money for this) as a hybrid conference, and the virtual experience has been, not to put too fine a point on it, dogshit. None of the concurrent sessions are zoomed live. The recordings which "will be available within 24 hours after the session ends" aren't. More than half the posters I've gone looking for aren't uploaded. I'm feeling pretty dicked around by GSA here.

I’m at #TAGC24 and browsing posters when I saw this one. Without looking at the authors, I thought to myself “who reimplemented #JBrowse to be vertical?” Silly me: the #MGI folks just took a wide screenshot and rotated it 😂

Just registered for #TAGC24 and could not believe how many extra events were available to participate in! Career development, teaching, politics, communication, community service, all sorts of great stuff! (And most of it included in the registration charge!)

Just finished my last Genetics Society of America meeting as a member of the board and the "member at large" on the executive committee. It has been such an honor to contribute to the society the last 3 years. Can't wait for #TAGC24 and for all the other initiatives GSA has brewing for 2024!
