Alright new instance new #introduction time. I should really just copy this somewhere so I don't have to keep retyping it, given how much I move.
I'm #queer, and #polyamorous who's about 30 years old at the time of writing. I do tend to hop around fediverse instances, but I'd like to stop that at some point. I liked Friendica a lot, but my last 2 instances died very suddenly, and I decided against trying a third time. My more stationary account is @[email protected], which should be up indefinitely if I don't decide to stop giving omg.lol my money (unlikely, they deserve it!)
I'm a #gamer, and have been for as long as I can remember. I play #FinalFantasyXIV, #GuildWars2, and #WurmOnline for #MMORPG, and I rotate between a few different non MMOs. I tend to play a lot of #VisualNovel, #Mahjong on Riichi City (and hopefully some on FFXIV once cross-DC queues hit NA!), and a lot of #NSFW games. If you have any suggestions on those don't hesitate to DM me, I'm always looking for more!
For some technical hobbies, I'm into #3DPrinting, and I've dabbled in #Soldering to make my own #MechanicalKeyboard. Didn't design it, but I did put it together without a kit :D
Generally I'm very into #FOSS, and #HomeLab. I've also been a #Linux user since 2010. Over the years I've used several flavors of Ubuntu, Debian, EndeavourOS, Garuda Linux, Arch Linux, and currently a #Gentoo user. Also #Emacs is the best piece of software to ever be released.
I'm a #Writer, though I'm currently being very slow writing this novella. Hoping to turn it into a VN, but I can't draw to save my life, and it's real expensive to commission that many images. Might just do a light novel-style thing and throw an image in with each chapter.
For crafts I like #Knitting, and I can #Crochet though do that very infrequently because it hurts. I also do #TabletWeaving, though I'm fairly new at that.
That's just about everything! I do occasionally boost porn, and will probably post my own at some point. Images will be CW'd, text likely will not be, as it causes some distress figuring out what to CW -

Lovely day at Rajamäki. It was amazing to be weaving in the old yeast factory.

Ladders from Applesies and Fox Noses. For learning — tension and edges are a mess while I learned the loom and pattern.
This loom handles twist poorly. My first attempt to manage this was:
1. Weave the pattern (rows 1–32)
2. Flip all tablets
3. Weave rows 1–32 againThis doesn't work. I needed to mirror after the flip: step 3 should be rows 32–1. That confusion sent me to Twisted Threads, where I entered the full pattern plus its reverse to preview before weaving. From then on, I simply wove all 64 rows straight through. Twisted Threads' interactive weaving tool was invaluable here.
This pattern taught me the thread that appears on the top face of the band is the one traveling across the top of the tablet during the turn. I frequently lost track of whether I'd finished a row or started the next, and had to remind myself: if I weave this row, what comes up next? My ability to read what I'd just woven improved a lot — but it's still a work in progress.

The sun is shining and the tablet-woven earrings really pop. Sometimes it's nice to make something small.

My latest tablet-weaving project, woven based on a 15th-century trim from Siksälä in Estonia, is done. And I am trying out some new style of photos to present my woven trims and belts with some driftwood and dried flowers.

i am preparing to weave some bands to put on hats, here is a sketch of the situation (after i got the yarns under control and into their boxes)

⌘ Hannunvaakuna, Käpälikkö, Nelilehdykkä, Saint John's Arms ⌘
The old symbol is told to be for protection and good luck, and according to one interpretation, the four loops on the symbol depict the spirits of the four cardinal directions, which support the heaven above the earth. (taivaannaula.org)

this one is 36 cards wide, the widest i made so far, it was a little difficult to work with so many cards at first, but i got used to it and finished it quite quickly
-
this one was satisfying and fast to make because the yarn is thicker and the pattern quite simple

The symbol is known in Finland/Karelia as Siivilänpesonen, but I also found the same symbol in old Ukrainian folk art, where it is called Krynytsia (Well).
The meaning to the symbol is told to be:
The well, marked by crossed diagonal lines, symbolizes the link between worlds - like a real well that draws not just water, but ancestral memory. Alongside it, the fertility rune invokes abundance and continuity of life. -

i like to try new patterns but i really really dislike threading the cards, so i wove two patterns with the same threading.
i experimented a little on the areas when the twist changes direction to see how different approaches look. -
Another project I am currently working on is a reconstruction of the trim of a richly decorated shroud. The original was found in a woman's grave in the cemetery of Siksälä, Estonia. The woman buried in grave 38 was wrapped in a cloth decorated with metal clasps and a tablet-woven border. The burial dates from between 1300 and 1475 AD. This is what the border trim once looked like:

Yesterday's threads are today's trim.
The pattern is that of Hallstatt Textile 123, which dates dack to the Celtic period. It was found in the salt mines of Hallstatt, where it has been reused and was thus preserved. Originally it was most probably sewn onto a sleeve hem.#tabletweaving #brettchenweben #Celts #Kelten #bandweaving #handweaving #Hallstatt #livinghistory

It ist so satisfying to have a newly threaded project on the loom. Soon it will be a trim with a pattern from the Celtic period of Hallstatt.

in summer i bought this small hand woven bag and i was unable to find a matching strap for it. i picked up tablet weaving to make one myself. this is it! it is finished, i am done, i can stop now
