  2. Rock Kestrel

While walking along a road that runs along a contour halfway up Table Mountain we came across this beauty.

  3. Fire on Table Mountain

A fire broke out on the front slopes of Table mountain.

Fortunately the South Easter gale had subsided and they could bring the helicopters in.

The helicopters circled picking up water from a local reservoir

  4. Taken at sunset on the slopes of Table Mountain this is a Wagon Tree. It is a member of the protea family (Protea Nitida) and indigenous to the Fynbos Biome
It gets its name from the fact that it produced wood strong enough to repair the ox wagons used by early settlers.

  5. Still on the road. Shot this pic in the morning. A lot of people will probably recognise this iconic mountain.

If you don't know, this is Table Mountain shot from the Bloubergstrand side.

Now imagine what the European explorers must have thought when they sailed around the Cape the first time.

  6. There was a wonderful conjunction of the new moon and Venus on the fourth of September which I really wanted to see and photograph. In Cape Town such events absolutely guarantee clouds so I ended up taking sunset photos instead.
The mountain on the left is Lion's Head part of the Table Mountain range.
