Yesterday, I ran a firmware update on Linux: "sudo #fwupdmgt update” which showed an intel ME update I ran.
Device: Lenovo #T490.
Since then, I can't boot my #Linux (#NixOS) anymore. Instead, I have a strange boot-loop into the BIOS.

Endlich habe ich daran gedacht mir im hiesigen Mediamarkt die Laptops anzuschauen um die Entscheidung zu treffen, ob ich mir einen 14" oder 15,6" kaufe. Zum Glück hatten sie beide Varianten nebeneinander stehen.
Ein ganz schöner Unterschied. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, das 15,6" so ausladend ist. Der ist zu groß um ihn immer mitzunehmen.Entschieden ist:

I've lost "xdu" (custom package doesn't compile anymore), had to manually download a closed source binary once again, had to manually replace "okular" with "kdePackages.okular" and remove "services.locate.localuser".
The upgrade went somewhat fine. Didn't find any issues so far besides the usual Python annoyances (manual re-creation of all venv and so forth).
However, I'm looking forward to switching back to #Debian in a few months. My Debian upgrades didn't require that much time and effort AFAIR and #Python is working in a normal way.

After only 5 years, the fan on my #Thinkpad #T490 made unbearable #noise and I replaced it today. The replacement part cost 84.99 € (the whole cooling unit in the picture below). My 9 year old #T460 works perfectly. I wish #Lenovo would make sturdy and serviceable laptops like the T460 series again.

Upgrade to Xubuntu 20.04 LTS fixed most issues I had with #Lenovo #T490 and #Xubuntu 19.10

Dans l’idéal j’aimerais un T490 avec cette config. Mais 1 362€ ça pique 🙄 Auriez vous de suggestions de modèles de laptop et/ou de vendeurs s’il vous plait ? J’en ai besoin car je commence une formation (web-dev) de 10 mois la semaine pro. Le gpu c’est pour le traitement photo.
