Sometimes the alignment is just off a bit. Taking it apart is a good first step. Also something could be sticking up and physically blocking the bottom cover from fully closing.
Also, I usually click in the front of the laptop, after putting the bottom cover at a slight angle, front first. Then click in the rest of the bottom cover, back last.

Endlich ist das #t480 Display angekommen. Allerdings ist es ohne Brackets, also wohl nicht ganz dasselbe Modell.
Model B140HAN04.0 von "AU Optronics".
Zwei kleine Tupfen Doppelklebeband halten das Display jetzt im Rahmen.
Zu spät habe ich mitbekommen, dass man auch ein T490 Low Power Display verbauen kann. Mal schauen ob es mal irgendwann ein Upgrade gibt.
Operation erfolgreich, Patient läuft wieder. 🎉

Could anyone with a #lenovothinkpadT480 and a 65 W Ikea "Sjöss" charger try if they are compatible and charge fast and reliably?
I know Ikea is not all green and good (they introduced fast furniture iirc) but the electronics always seemed reliable and affordable to me (LED bulbs, NiMH 'eneloop' style batteries).
This 65W small form factor (is it GaN or something?) sounds like a steal for 13 €. But the #t480 is picky with PPS chargers therefore some real world testing is necessary.

So ein Mist. Das #T480 ist immer noch tot: Das eDP Verbindungskabel zwischen Display und Mainboard wars nicht.
Jetzt habe ich mal ein Ersatzdisplay bestellt für 52 Euro mit 0-Pixelfehler-Garantie.
Wenn das auch nicht klappt ist es wohl ein Schaden am Mainboard selbst, weil die RAMs habe ich schon kreuz- und quer- und ausgetauscht ohne Änderung.
Display Modellnummer LM140LF2L soll es sein.

You can take it out and examine the touchpad. Usually the internal battery has to be removed to gain access to the screws that release the touchpad.
I have had to replace a few touchpads, but sometimes just taking them out, cleaning a bit and reinstalling makes them behave better.
The replacement touchpad part is not that expensive (usually) and should be fairly readily available for the T480 as that is a common model.

@qwertzy @thorsten die Lenovo #t480 haben Intel Core i5 oder i7 Prozessoren der 8000er Reihe und sind somit win11 fähig.
Die T480 sind auch die letzten mit herausnehmbatem Akku. Ab T490 muss man aufschrauben zum Akku Tausch. Was aber auch kein Problem ist im Gegensatz zu Acer oder anderen Consumer-Büchsen.
Ich mag mein T480. Keine Schönheit, eher robuster Panzer. Kantig, zweckmäßig, zuverlässig. Laden über USB-C mit jedem 65W PowerDelivery Netzteil.

so far I tried debian, pop!os (20), fedora 42/43/silverblue, cachyOS and arch on the #thinkpad #t480 - ah yes, and win10 for about 5 minutes. What I still plan to test are majaro, ubuntu, openSuse, elementary, freeBSD, gnomeOS and Haiku.
I'd also try Gentoo but imho I don't have time for that as I used to.

Xmas came a little earlier for me this year. I finally fulfilled my longtime wish, to get myself a Laptop. After some research and a deal on eBay that I was OK with, I can call myself a proud owner of an #T480 (yes, I am one of those people now).
Immediately replaced win11 with #linuxmint , got my favorite tools installed and everything is working just great 😌 -

Eine Nerdfrage.
#Thinkpad #T480 und #Boot vom Live #LinuxMint haben zur Folge, dass #GRUB #Konfiguration kaputt ist bzw. nicht richtig ist und auch LUKS/LVM der Festplatte nach Passworteingabe nicht mehr automatisch geöffnet, d.h. aktiviert und gemounted werden.
Das scheint am #BIOS und seinem #NVRAM zu liegen. ChatGPT hat mir dazu viel erzählt.
Hat jmd von Euch auch solche Erfahrungen gemacht und kann übet Beobachtungen berichten?

My go to place to look is ebay for used OEM parts. Used parts are almost all original OEM parts, while the new ones are frequently lower quality knockoffs.

Seems like there are a good number between $18 and $30.
If you are in the US, I could possibly sell and ship one to you.
For the trackpad, it may be difficult to diagnose if it only happens occasionally. I've seen things like that. Sometimes software. Sometimes a physical capacitive short. Disassembling, cleaning and putting back together could possibly help.

@ottobackwards Any recommendations on where to buy those replacement batteries? The one I got for my #t480 degraded rather quickly (doesn't fully charge after less than two years).

Ich habe den in meine enge Auswahl gezogen als #refurbished gezogen.
Nun sehe ich gerade, dass der nur eine #WXGA Auflösung (1366x768) unterstützt. Andere 14" Laptops (z.B. HP Elitebook 840) unterstützen #FullHD (1920x1080)
Nun frage ich mich, ob der nur falsch ausgezeichnet ist, oder ob da unterschiedliche Auflösungen gibt, oder ob der T480 tatsächlich nur WXGA kann.

I've been using a laptop this week with 16gb of ram and have been surprisingly fine. My other, main laptop has 64gb. Granted most of my workloads have moved to my desktop with 128gb.
I didn't think there'd be that much of a difference between 8th and 11th gen Intel's, but it's definitely zippier. Not sure I'd ever be comfortable parting with my #thinkpad #T480. I sold my last one during the pandemic and missed it dearly.
I also probably wouldn't have as much hesitation making this my main laptop if it was a ThinkPad, but it's an HP #EliteBook.

Since I updated to #Linux #mint22 I have a strange problem using LAN on my #T480 #Thinkpad (no problem if connected at boot)
If wifi is connected and I plug in a RJ45 connection the systems freezes somehow: programs already running keep running (ping, htop), but no new processes can start.In htop 1 CPU core is at 100% with "kworker/6: 3-mm_percpu_wq". I even can't shutdown and have to kill it with >10seconds-Powerbutton.

Anyone manage to get a #WAN #modem (#LTE for# 4G) on #Lenovo #ThinkPad #T480 or #T480s working under #Linux especially #nixOS ? (so you can insert a #SIM in the SIM slot and use the #cellular network directly for mobile internet without using WiFi nor your smartphone as a hot-spot). Thinking of #retrofitting one... but want to know if there is any point under Linux. Thanks!

@amcq I've had really good experiences running #debian and #guix on #x220; #debian, #ubuntu and #arch on #x250 and #t480
#x220 is practically a relic at this point, but still very usable
My daily driver is the #t480, which is eminently user upgradable (likely the last such #thinkpad). I even maxed it out with 64GB of aftermarket RAM
