I'm back to using Cinnamon desktop environment on my ThinkPad T470s laptop.
Was having a few annoyances and crashes with XFCE. Could have been that I installed XFCE with pacman and not as a fresh install. Could be the bleeding edge of Artix Linux. Not sure.
Installed Cinnamon with pacman and I'll see if it behaves better.

Notes on #KDE
On my ThinkPad T470s laptop with KDE on Artix Linux, ‘tap to click’ feature was not working on the touchpad. I had to ‘press to click’, which was fine for a while, but I missed just being able to use a light tap on the touchpad to ‘click’.
Looked in KDE settings for touchpad and ‘tap to click’ was already selected, but not actually working.
To get it to work, I had to edit this file:
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.confand add the line:
Option "Tapping" "True"in the input class section for my touchpad.
Logged out and then back in again. Now ‘tap to click’ works.

Going to be doing a fresh installation of Artix Linux with KDE (and i3wm) on my ThinkPad daily driver T470s laptop.
The batteries are a pain in the T470s, so I do not recommend it unless you are willing to live with that issue. The regular T470 is a much better laptop as far as the batteries and memory upgrades go.
But I have a T470s and I am (mostly) willing to live with the battery issues.
Use what you have!

I switched laptops.
I was using a ThinkPad L390 Yoga. It had a touchscreen that I almost never used. My son was wanting to have a laptop with stylus to use with Krita for artwork, so the L390 will be going to him.
For me, I am now currently using a ThinkPad T470s and liking it.
Good to be back with a T series ThinkPad. T470s has a few drawbacks, namely the two internal batteries that are prone to fail and a bit more expensive to replace. Other than that, it is a really good design.

Just did some upgrades, service and thermal cleaning on a ThinkPad T470s laptop.
This laptop has two internal batteries. The back one was a bit puffy "spicy pillow". I had another used battery on hand that wasn't puffy, so replace it.
Replaced the thermal paste on the CPU.
Upgraded from 8GB to 12GB (one memory slot, 4GB on the motherboard, so took out a 4GB module and replaced with 8GB module).
Upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 with an installer made by Rufus, which bypasses the hardware requirements check.
Scanned for malware with Malwarebytes. It found a bunch of "mindspark" junk references and removed them.

Snappy Driver Installer (SDI) also does not work. It finds a bunch of drivers and chipsets to update and does, but the problem remains.
I also don't think it is a driver issue, as it works fine after a reboot. Something about "cold booting" Windows just is exactly wrong to keep the keyboard from working at all in Windows.

CW: Thinkpad hardware failure troubleshooting
My #thinkpad T470s (Running AVMX Linux) crashed a few days ago. I saw it coming the last week when it switched off abruptly multiple times without any obvious reasons. Now It does not switch on, No lights blinking including when its connected to the power adaptor. I have tried multiple adaptors, removed battery etc.
Could it be that the fault is with the motherboard ? Anyone with similar experience out there ?

#fediverse Ich liebäugel mit einem #Thinkpad (refurbished). Meine engere Wahl ist ein #t470s oder #t480s. OS wird Linux natürlich, idealerweise #debian11. Irgendwelche Go's oder No-Go's bei den Modellen bekannt? Zu welchem würdet ihr mir raten?
