  1. The "Blaze Star" 🌟 T Coronae Borealis, a recurring nova in the Northern Crown constellation, is expected to brighten dramatically soon, shining as bright as Polaris 🌌👀. This rare cosmic event could be visible to the naked eye for days—a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle! Stay tuned for updates 🔭✨ #Nova #Astronomy #TCoronaeBorealis #Stargazing

  2. You have no doubt heard of the “Blaze Star” - T. Coronae Borealis - which astronomers have been saying will explode “any day now” since August 2024.
(It’s about 500 light-years away, so it has already exploded, but that light hasn’t reached us yet.)
If you’d like to see it, but don’t know where to look, or even how to find where to look, this thread is for you, and you don’t even need to know your right ascension from your declination.
    Here’s how to find it.

  3. Finally tracked down the overdue nova T Coronae Borealis by star hopping. It was gratifyingly unimpressive 😃

  4. Thinking of the Blaze Star, a recurrent nova coming soon, I wonder how many historic moments were marked by such events.

Soon, a 'new' star will shine for 3 days before vanishing. This nova repeats every ~80 years, and recent observations show it's imminent.

  6. In a completely unexpected, but very pleasant surprise, our #TCoronaeBorealis video has recently hit 22k views! The best performing video on the #PhysExe channel in recent history, especially this soon after upload. Great to see so many folks interested in the soon-to-erupt recurrent #nova.

If you're interested in seeing for yourself, please do go over and take a look at it. Actually quite proud of how it turned out considering how quickly it came together. #scicomm

  9. I keep checking to see if #TCoronaeBorealis has gone nova yet, but it seems like it hasn't.

Could happen any day between now and September. I'm not sure what the most definitive source is, or who will report the fastest when it happens.

Seems like a good opportunity for a single purpose website. Like maybe: hasTCoronaeBorealisGoneNovaYet.com

    perhaps? Pretty small audience probably.

  10. CW: Huge star explosion to appear in sky in once-in-a-lifetime event
    > The binary star system in the constellation Corona Borealis — “northern crown” — is normally too dim to see with the naked eye.
    >
    > But every 80 years or so, exchanges between its two stars, which are locked in a deadly embrace, spark a runaway nuclear explosion.
