Déjà dispo partout ailleurs depuis 2023, le remake de System Shock (RPG/shoot/cybermachin à la première personne, PC, 1994) sortira sur Switch et Switch 2 dans une semaine (18 déc.). Version boîte pour le moment sans date, mais dans les tuyaux.

Just finished the Nightdive remake of #SystemShock. Turns out that the basic game of System Shock is not hard to make into a really excellent game.
Now I've done it maybe I can get some work done, what a hoot of a game.
Also when the protagonist is a woman holy shit does that story get some weird extradimensionality.

I was in the mood to start a new playthrough of the System Shock remake, and I should really just gush a bit about how Shodan is great.
If you've only played the remake or the original much later after it released, the Evil AI Antagonist in video games shtick will feel like a well trodden trope, but Shodan was one of the OGs.
There's something about how she remains dignified and completely confident through the whole thing, simply judging that humans are Incorrectly Made, and deeply offended at their existence.
As you explore the space station, it dawns on you that the entire station is essentially her body. You're just a small ant somewhere in her kitchen at best, but at some point, she locks in on you and asks "Who ARE you?", and if you've been suspending disbelief a bit, the dread this fills you with, at that moment in time, is indescribable.
The immortal, perfect machine, the god-empress, in her overwhelming radiance, has noticed you, and this is bad.
What a good time.

Finished my playthrough of the System Shock (2023) remake last night and I have to say Nightdive did a good job of it. It retains very much of the feel of the original and its designs, while also updating the user interface to something more modern and more easily accessible by today’s standards. Personally I quite like their take on cyberspace as well, it was a fun way to have some freedom in six dimensions and provides some nice variety.
All in all it’s a great opportunity for someone who has not had a dive into cyberspace and the Citadel station before, as well as a great for a more nostalgic replay as well. For myself it had been long enough since I had played through the original that I had forgotten most of the details.
There’s some small annoyances I had with the UI, but overall it was a pretty smooth experience.

Una cosa que no pensaba que fuera a salir es el remaster del System Shock, un juego de los que marcaron un antes y un después.
Menos aún me esperaba un caótico modo multiplayer en este juego tan eminentemente monojugador, pero lo han pintado como una experiencia descacharrante para fans que supongo que será divertido una vez dentro. Para quitarle hierro a la historia tan turbochunga y opresiva del juego.
Sale en muuuuuchas plataformas el 26 de este mes.

Inevitably I did go back and re-play System Shock! Really enjoyed it and the enhanced version available from GOG works really well on Linux Mint.
The only extra step I needed to do was install QSynth in order to get the MIDI soundtrack working properly. The game is perfectly playable without it but I was surprised at how much I was missing the music!

To be clear,
I am not a ubisoft fan girl, nor a steam hater.
i hate the inherent hypocrisie around certain things.
i had some of my best gaming memories with ubi games, (and at Cons Ubisoft was always very respectfull to their OBR's and those of others.)
but i also had some of my best memories with EA, Steam, heck even had some great memories with EA games ( #systemshock 2 comes to mind, using the multiplayer mod)

Started up #SystemShock yesterday and I've gotta say, I'm loving the remake so far. Planning to play the sequel later this year.
I missed the original, which was before my time, but it's already clear that #BioShock was a love letter to this game.
(Ken Levine worked on System Shock early in his career, if you didn't know)
It's easy to see influences on other games too, specifically games like #DeusEx and #Portal.
This is good stuff.
