#synchronous — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #synchronous, aggregated by home.social.

  1. "Say goodbye to the shackles of #synchronous work and say hello to the liberating world of #asynchronous work!"

    Oh god, this again.

Yes, #async work can help, on some things, but it doesn't replace synchronous work, it complements it.

Seeking to replace all sync work with async work is like trying to replace all spoken communication with written communication. Or visa versa. Yes, you *can* do it, but you won't like the result.

  2. What a bunch of A-list celebs taught me about how to use my #phone
    theverge.com/24084772/celebrit
The key is to stay away from #synchronous communications as far as possible (especially work-related ones) and keep only what you need on the go in your phone: a #camera, a #map, maybe a #music or #podcast player. Or to switch to a #dumb phone if possible.

  3. Is there a offline or online tool to calculate/generate #synchronous #machine (mainly generator) #PowerChart / #CapabilityCurve which also allows to provide Xd and Xq and to read/calculate the field current for any given operational point?

  4. The fediverse – lots of different facets, microboggling, pictures/video, etc, but they’re all venues you shoot your load to and stand back to witness appraisal etc

What about a different mode such as, well, if I wanted to plug in my electric guitar and practice a bit with a few other people synchronously every few mornings of a week before work?

A thing like that is nothing like the shape of the fediverse now, but it has users/accounts and other similar stuff, just the dynamic is completely different

  9. Interesting post on the @briar #messenger by @Adam - watch the #video linked from the post.

#Briar is a quite resilient, secure messenger that is useful when #internet is only intermittently available (e.g., #disasters, #war zones, oppressive #throttling). It's capable of falling back even on #bluetooth. It supports forums and private groups.

Downsides: #synchronous communications only (so far); quite some battery drain; images compressed to 32KB, to save bandwidth.

  11. Is there any people here on the #Fediverse that have deep knowledge of DC #excitation systems for #synchronous machines, so #powerelectronics, for machines that have field current up to a few thousand ampere?
This is about #eletronic, but the kind with higher voltage and "real" current like in #thermalpowerplants, but preferable in #hydropower plants, mainly for #generator in such setups, but it can also be synchronous #motors, both up to 1.5 GW (most likely a generator then 😀.

So #electrical engineers or masters of that profession that work with high current applications.

  16. @rachelwilliams, yes, the #DeepNeuralNetworks exhibit true #intuition and #creativity. However, the large amount of #compute required is because we are using traditional #computers which are #synchronous, #dense and #sequential to emulate these #NeuralNetworkArchitectures which are #asynchronous, #sparse and massively #parallel.
With proper #cores they should take much less power than the human #brain, which is 12 W.
