  8. @satsuma @aspeed Although it's engaged in a cage match with Creepy Nuts's Bling Bang Bang Born, because my musical tastes range very, very widely (I blame the #synaesthesia ).

Err, these are just varieties of #synaesthesia - not really 'super powers'.
A bad super power would be if, for example, you could smell what someone else was hearing.

  11. I see sounds as shapes. #Synaesthesia has given me an extraordinary ability for languages
Kim Elms, a speech pathologist, shares her experience as an auditory-visual synaesthete

  13. Some #musicians have #PerfectPitch. Some even have #Synaesthesia. Lucky blighters.

I wonder what would happen if some #mathematicians have a similar neurological and perceptual super powers. But then, mathematicians do possess highly developed visualisation abilities and intuitions, which might well be called super powers.

  15. Wow just wow. Went to see the Kerry James Marshall show at the Royal Academy today. Mind blowingly amazing. Cannot recommend enough if you have the opportunity to see this I absolutely recommend you to go if you absolutely possibly can. 17. CW: Visualisation (eye strain warning) of how two talks at the same time appear in my autistic brain

This is how spoken words appear in my #ActuallyAutistic #synesthesia brain when I hear two talks simultaneously. Instant sensory overload! No matter how hard I try, my brain simply cannot prioritise one sound over another, especially speech.

  18. @dramypsyd
Mine's the boring one where symbols are mapped onto colours.
I wonder whether your variety is related to the problem some people have with the sound or even just the concept of nails scratching a blackboard?

  19. It never came up in conversation, but after yesterday's episode on #Synaesthesia, found out that both the kids have it too, and just assumed it was normal. I think this is more common than people assume. Means my wife is the odd one out, as she doesn't have it at all.

  21. About to record the #Synaesthesia episode of our podcast this morning, so any last thoughts you want Kirsten @MoonCat to read out, please get them in now.
This has been a very interesting thread indeed.

  23. Edit so people get to it first, I'd love to discuss these in my podcast if people don't mind. My wife (who's sighted) doesn't get it.
My possibly bizarre version of #Synaesthesia means that words have feeling associated with them, as in my fingers can actually feel what that means.
Having just heard the word 'Utah' in a youtube video, it reminded me that both 'Utah' and 'Uber' feel the same.
They both represent an average car tire with very new treads. No, don't ask why, I have no idea.
Some days of the week also have their associated feelings too, such as Friday being a huge soft spongy ball, Saturday being a Yale lock, Monday being a large camping-style water barrel you can pull along behind you, and Tuesday being the lid of an old-fashioned sweet jar with those huge glass lids that had a ball for a handle, if anyone remembers those.

I haven't heard of anyone else with this particular version of synaesthesia, so I'll just put my madness out there to start a conversation.
    Go wild.

  25. You might experience #synaesthesia when you are sometimes so emotionally charged that you see literal lightning bolts

  26. Say what you will about speech being silver and silence being golden, but the letters A, F, H, L, X and the number 4 are green and nothing can convince me otherwise.

  29. @gregc

I have an acquired form of synaesthesia due to a migraine drug that apparently rewired a bit of my brain in under a month. My experience is that the result varies.
So does she always see the same colour for the same note or chord. and can she describe the colour accurately.
I'd suggest looking at pantone colours as they can be identified then coded easily.

  30. A neighbour has a granddaughter with a #music scholarship. She can't read music and is dropping behind other #students. She also has #Synesthesia #synaesthesia. In her case she hears music as colours.

My neighbour asked me if I knew any #programmers who might be able to produce some #software that could visualise music as colours rather than a convention musical #stave, to help overcome her #difficulty.

    Other solutions/ideas welcome!

    Please boost!
