  1. "The Zionist produces and defines itself through the animalization of the Palestinian."

"Palestinian liberation is an impossibility in the current ordering of knowledge and being, similarly demanding through its realization the end of […] this world, and modernity."

This paper "posits that Palestinian freedom necessitates the creation of new worlds and [the getting rid of encumbering] constructs such as modernity and the Human."

  6. @kiwi ...because of war, class war from above, imperial lifestyle and the unbroken coloniality of being/power/truth/freedom*? Yes, so much!

  7. Patricia Reed - The Aesthetemes of Monohumanist “Man”: Lessons on the Relation between Sociogeny and Techne for the Planetary Turn

  8. Katherine McKittrick's Demonic Grounds: Black Women and the Cartographies of Struggle recurrently on my mind this morning. I should go back and re-read that, after I get through the pile I have from the #library this month.

  9. Choosing love over hate does not mean there's kumbaya and warm feelings all round. Seems like #MLK should always be contextually read with #JamesBaldwin (& #MalcomX), bc they understood love, and it isn't letting #whiteness set the terms of inclusion, forgiveness, community, because if it does, love will still be exclusive, still reinscribe white dominance as the underlying sociopolitical and onto-epistemological structures. Love & riots aren't exclusive. See also #FrantzFanon, #SylviaWynter.

  10. Lookit, neither the chicken nor the egg came first. Which is to say, they both came first.

  11. @nadinestorying @blackmastodon #SylviaWynter talked a great deal about the influence of and influences on #MarcusGarvey as regards Jamaica and AfroCaribbean literature and politics in general.

  12. "Those who maintain that #art must not propagate doctrines, refer only to those doctrines that are contrary to their own."

~#JorgeLuisBorges, as quoted by #SylviaWynter, p615 of We Must Learn to Sit Down Together and Talk About a Little Culture.

  13. I think the concepts & practices of things like #BlackJoy & #TransJoy are immensely important. I think they are directly linked to a lot of powerful theoretical work, too. Like Alexander Weheliye's #HabeasViscus. Like Christina Sharpe's #WakeWork. Katherine McKittrick's #DemonicGrounds (& thence into #SylviaWynter). And the one that's hooked me most into its cipher, Monica R Miller's notion of #AporeticFlow. (Her work is initially what motivated my work into #JacquesDerrida.)

  18. @Paperbacks_n_Frybread Likely last two of the year: I should be able to finish We Must Learn to Sit Down Together and Talk About a Little Culture: Decolonising Essays, 1967-1984, by #SylviaWynter
    and
The Immortality Thief, by Taran Hunt (#SciFi)
and probably start Conquest: Sexual Violence and American Indian Genocide, by #AndreaSmith

  19. @itzpaquet There was an old joke about #Haiti that it's 95% #Catholic and 100% #voodoo, and that's exactly the same phenomenon, and I love it.

#SylviaWynter also has a lot to say about this cultural process as a part of the formation of Jamaica and other Afro-Caribbean nations. It's fascinating.

  20. "To use language is not to copy language but to reinvent it."

    ~Sylvia Wynter

This is a principle that I think is applicable far beyond language, or rather, applicable everywhere language permeates, which is to say, everywhere.

  21. @Sean1966 I mean, sociologically, anthropologically, and psychologically, I don't think "weakness" is even properly how that works. I agree, though, that it is the philosophical weakness of Western thought that continually searches, even scientifically (see #Enlightenment) for #extrahuman sources of affectivity. Here, #SylviaWynter is helpful, as is #SaraAhmed's work on #QueerPhenomonology, and Anthony B Pinn's work on #BlackHumanism.

  22. Look what arrived from my dear friend Demetrius Eudell. His edition of #SylviaWynter 's #Decolonizing essays 1967-1984. Looking forward to sit down and read about a little culture. 🙏🏼

  23. Preparing the rest of my #WinterReading, & I'm apparently feeling the big ol' #doorstoppers.

After clearing a bunch of other smaller projects, finally started #SylviaWynter's collection of early essays, We Must Learn to Sit Down Together and Talk About a Little Culture, weighing in at a dense 648 pps. Almost done with J. M. Miro's #OrdinaryMonsters. Ordered both gigantic volumes of #VictoriaGoddard's Lays of the Hearth-Fire books (Hands of the Emperor will be a comfort re-read).

  24. Excited to finally get my hands on a copy of this, a new collection of Sylvia Wynter's early essays! @philosophy @decolonial #SylviaWynter #Wynter #decolonial #BlackStudies
