  1. UPDATE
Decided to stick with 15.1-RELEASE for my home server.

Looking to try the Sylve virtualization manager, and noticed:

"Although we list support for FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE, we strongly recommend using -STABLE with pkgbase... That said, if your use case requires maximum stability and you do not need the latest features or bug fixes, 15.0-RELEASE should work perfectly fine."

Perhaps switching to -STABLE will be OK?

    Hmm...

  3. @tubsta @Unsightly3055 Just look at #Sylve as Proxmox replacement in #FreeBSD

A beautiful environment for bhyve and jails for example.
Not to foget the ZFS base for the installs. Super stable

  5. Some install notes on Sylve / FBSD15:

1: networking? Used the same IP as the host for now
    Works flawless

2: Installed Blocky in a jail.
Works fine, no issues. Low in resources

3: Databases postgres and Mariadb (in one jail)
    Mariadb: enable and start.
Porstgreql: added sysvipc in the config
    service postgresql initdb worked fine.
The allow options are not fully distributed in the option screen, config to the rescue

  7. I got convinced and setting up a standalone server with Freebsd 15.1 as virtual instance server
    Besides the ones I have.

Install was a bit chunky because I needed wifi for that moment but the ax201 is well supported once the hotspot was online

This one gets Sylve a jail and bhyve management environment.
Migrating as much as possible from Proxmox, at least thats the plan

  11. @armin I can understand. I hope #sylve will keep the pace and release often.

  13. Has anyone installed Sylve on a system with jails (bastille) as well as a configured Samba already present?
Did it do anything to those configs?

  15. Wrote a follow-up on how I added 3 backup options to my #FreeBSD + #Sylve NAS.

    1. ZFS send/receive over SSH 📡 🛰️
    2. Time Machine of Apple MacOS on a Samba share 🧑🏼‍💻
    3. Rsync of UFS filesystem 💾 👍

    I hope it helps somebody.

  17. I just did a cursed thing.

Running ChimeraLinux Live base image under Sylve in a bhyve VM on FreeBSD that's running inside a VM on a OpenMediaVault (Linux QEMU/KVM) Installation

  19. Why has nobody told me about this before? It is easier to manage jails and VMs in multiple FreeBSD servers with this web app.
