Although this is described by BT Archives as "PMBX1A" the 1A is the bank of switchboards at the back left of the photo.

The operators are sat at a two position 10+50 board, next to a very straggly christmas tree

Space in State House was leased to the UK Government in 1961, but I don't know which departments these boards served.
