It's a gorgeous day here, so I decided to take what I expected to be a long work call from a nearby park. Afterwards, on the way back to my office, I stopped at a local shop and sheepishly picked up a five dollar used DVD copy of the 1984 cheeseball classic "Red Dawn" starring Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Charlie Sheen, and Harry Dean Stanton (whose shining moment comes in one of my favorite scenes in all of movie history... Shout it with me now: "BOYS!!!! AVENGE ME!!!! AAAAAHVENNNNGE MEEEEE!!!!")
Anyway, when checking out, the clerk asked if I wanted a bag and I instinctively said no. Back on the street, I quickly realized that I was about to become a grown-ass man seen walking the streets of a busy college town... carrying a plainly visible DVD copy of "Red Dawn" in calendar year 2023.
And do you think I minded? Do you think it made me feel weird or embarrassed? No. No it did not. That shit put a dip in my hip and a glide in my stride.
