"Hindu students ask schools to discern the swastika from the Nazi Hakenkreuz
‘I think it’s very important that young people are told that the swastika has a very positive meaning, but it has been taken and used as a racist symbol,’ said Baijayanti Roy of Goethe University Frankfurt. ‘The swastika does not have any negative connotations, whereas the Hakenkreuz stands for evil.
Mira Trivedi, 15, grew up surrounded by the swastika. Her family hung it around their home for holidays. A priest drew it on her newborn cousin’s forehead. Her family members wore jewelry with the symbol.
To Trivedi, who is Hindu, the swastika always signaled its auspicious Sanskrit meaning: well-being, good fortune and peace.
So when her eighth grade social studies teacher said the swastika was a hate symbol representing Hitler’s genocidal antisemitism, Trivedi went up after class to explain that the Nazi symbol was not the swastika but the Hakenkreuz, a German word meaning 'hooked cross.' The swastika, which is usually slightly different in appearance, is a devotional symbol in South Asian religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, she said.
Trivedi hoped for a lightbulb moment after her spiel, but the teacher said only higher ups could implement changes about what’s taught about the symbol. 'That’s what started my whole journey,' Trivedi said.
She presented her case to the vice principal, principal and board of education at her central New Jersey school in May 2025. 'I was sweating through the entire meeting, I was so nervous,' she said. But the effort paid off, and she convinced the school board to educate 35 teachers about the difference between the symbols."

Twitter gegen Kontrafunk - ein ethisches Dilemma?
Ich gestehe: ich verstehe die Welt nicht mehr!
Vor bald drei Jahren fragte mich ein Bekannter, ob er mich in seiner Sendung auf "Kontrafunk" interviewen dürfe. (Sowas passiert, wenn man privat auch Kontakt mit politisch andersdenkenden Menschen pflegt, weil man gewisse Qualitäten an ihnen schätzt.) Ich lehnte freundlich ab, denn wie hätte ich den Interview-Podcast teilen können, ohne für diesen #AfD-nahen Kanal zu werben?
Und will ich, daß eine Online-Suche nach meinem Namen dort endet? Dann engagieren mich künftig nur noch #neurechte #Kultursalons für #Konzerte ...In den letzten Wochen beobachte ich aber, daß beinahe all meinen Mitmenschen die Vernetzung mit neurechten Medien völlig egal zu sein scheint. Nach wie vor tummeln sich sämtliche bekennenden #Linken und #Grünen, (z.B. die #Bundestagskandidaten, über die ich mich vor der letzten Wahl informierte) im Meinungsforum von #Trump s Chefberater. Und ich befürchte, das würde auch so bleiben, wenn dieser das X gegen eine #Swastika austauschen würde; ein römischer Gruß genügte nicht. Ich selber habe #"Facebook" schon aus geringerem Anlass verlassen.
Ich muss also einsehen, daß ich mit meiner Ansicht auf dem Holzweg war:
#Kontaktschuld, wie ich sie ja quasi befürchtete, gibt es gar nicht! Selbst Wolodymyr #Selenskyj, vor dem ich größten Respekt habe, nutzt #Twitter!Der Sumpf der Social Media war mir stets suspekt (allem voran das #Mikroblogging), aber auch ich benötige als Künstler eine gewisse #Reichweite. Ist es – aus ethischer Sicht – nicht einerlei, ob man diese über "Twitter"-Posts oder ein "Kontrafunk"-Interview erzielt?
Wird das hier irgendwo diskutiert?
Oder: Wer erklärt mir die Welt?
