  1. Three #photos today. Saw this pipevine #swallowtail flittering around the backyard and eventually it zeroed in on the #pipevine I planted earlier this spring just for this species (its host plant). Captured it alighting on it then depositing a clutch of #eggs.

  8. Short-tailed Swallowtails (Papilio brevicauda) are much rarer and more localized than Black Swallowtail. Coastal marshes, dunes and headlands where the host plant, Scotch Lovage, grows within 100 meters of the ocean. Very restricted distribution – its global range is restricted to areas surrounding the Gulf of St. Lawrence. We saw these in the Iles-de-la-Madeleine.
