…Notice the suttas DON'T begin with 'Thus have I heard FROM ĀNANDA', just 'Thus have I heard'. Later prose authors could have been referring to the oral tradition in general, and made up the story of Ānanda's reciting the entire Canon, in order to legitimise the very long texts they wrote.

…Compared to the prose suttas, those poems present Buddha as a more human, ascetic, solitary sage (muni) who abandons ALL views; who doesn't study under Āḷāra and Uddaka; doesn't do a life-long lecture tour; skips the arūpajhāna level of neither-perception-nor-nonperception; and other interesting differences. Give them a read.

Pour ceux qui lisent le “Sûtra du Coeur” – le Maka Hannya Haramita Shingyo – la première fois ils peuvent être désemparés par une logique qui semble être contre-intuitive.
