I was reading about the most recent tipped over lunar landers, and I heard about the Surveyor program. Somehow I had forgotten/never known that NASA had landed unmanned landers on the moon. It is super impressive that they suceeded. But the craziest achievement is that Apollo 12 landed at the same site, within 600ft, of Surveyor 3. 53 years ago today, my favourite of the #NASA #Apollo #Moon missions blasted off. #Apollo12 was unique in many ways, but for me, it was the mission where the #astronauts rendezvoused with #Surveyor3 - an unmanned probe already on the lunar surface, the only time man has caught up with a previously launched craft.
After he returned to earth Alan Bean became a painter - mostly painting his lunar experiences. One of my ambitions is to own an #alanbean print. One day...
