  1. ... been seeing suggestions that English water co's might be allowed to charge 'surge pricing'. Outrageous until they fix that 30% loss because they don't fix pipes etc and surcharge water guzzling data centres. Oh and stop paying execs for failure!
Do those things and then it could be reasable to think about and have a conversation about surge charging for water in droughts.
But we also need proper democratic means to have those conversations.

  2. 🚗💥 Oh, look! #Uber has decided that #merging #code should be as chaotic as their surge pricing. Now with 'speculative merging', because who needs certainty when you can have pure, adrenaline-fueled guessing games? 🏎️🎲

  3. The problem is if we allow one super market to get away with it the others will follow that's why we need to boycott & publicly shame Waitrose (and John Lewis) for using digital labels.

Washington state proposed law to ban stores changing prices based on surveillance of who is buying it.
YES. This needs to be the law everywhere NOW. How do we get this to be an EU Directive by summer?

  5. TechSpot: New study finds little evidence of surge pricing when retailers use digital shelf labels. “In recent years, digital shelf labels have stirred debate across the United States. Although some shoppers and lawmakers worry the technology could enable unpredictable, demand-driven price hikes, a new academic study suggests those fears may be overblown.”

  6. #Kroger and #Walmart Deny ‘#SurgePricing’ After Adopting Digital #PriceTags
Some members of Congress have expressed concerns that stores will monitor customers and raise prices. Business experts say the technology has not raised customers’ grocery bills. Congress also claims data from #facialrecognition technology at Kroger could be considered in pricing decisions.
Kroger denied all claims, saying it has no plans to implement dynamic pricing.

  7. Personally, I’m all for #surgepricing. Most of the acts I’d like to see almost never sell out, so in theory the prices will drop.

  8. Fucking #Wendys... They're just straight up stealing customers' change now. Between #surgePricing and passive-aggressive workers who apparently believe they're entitled to your "extra money", I just can't justify going there anymore. Fortunately, there's plenty of fast food establishments that aren't a sack of dickbags. I'm still getting my burger.

  9. #Wendys is so upset that people are criticizing their plan to introduce "#surgePricing" like #Uber and #Lyft. They insist that their plan to dynamically readjust pricing is totally not surge pricing! Tho they haven't been able to articulate how, exactly, their plan is different. You just have to take their word for it! It's different, dammit.

  10. The #burger-outlet-#surgepricing fiasco has, once again, shown how easily you can manipulate people's emotions #online.

    Quick recap:
    1. A popular burger outlet says they are thinking of implementing demand-based #dynamicpricing for their menu.
    2. People hate the idea and start trolling them with #memes online.
    3. The outlet walks back the idea" hastily"...

    So, the people won?

    Nope.

The #brand got #topofmind recall with consumers in exchange for some mild trolling.

In the words of a wise DJ:

  11. Starting a new type of surge pricing: every time I hear "for exposure" or "we're a really small biz (you're not smaller than my biz)" or "we don't have a set budget (no budget at all)" from a potential client, my rates go up.

  12. I see lots of pearl clutching and rage tooting over Wendy's #surgepricing - it's fast food, not an entitlement or a neccessity. #Wendys can do whatever the hell it wants, they're a #fastfood joint. Save your outrage for a grocery or food market that tries this shit.

  13. #Wendys paying someone to say that they never called it "surge pricing" but rather "dynamic pricing" makes me believe that I totally messed up when choosing a career path to make money.

  14. This is what happens when social media blows up on your awkward attempt to remove any extra money out of our wallets.
Their surge pricing strategy blew up in their face.

  15. So the future of shopping will be that everything is sold based on continuously fluctuating “market value’ which changes at the same speed as stock market.

    Great.

  16. Surge pricing for food. This poison is spreading from failed Si valley businesses run by greedy grifters to essential industries run by greedy grifters. The future of the unprivileged masses looks bleaker with each passing day.

À propos surge - Wendy's wants to introduce surge pricing? A burger for $52 when at lunch time and in NYC and $9 else? Like Uber and Lyft? Thank you Wendy's. Not with me. Beef patties are cheaper to buy to grill them myself.
