My last try to acclimate with a#MSWindows OS was years ago after I left IBM when I bought a #SurfaceGo tablet. It didn’t work. Even though I liked the hardware, I didn’t use it.
Now I’ve given it a second life. I set it up with #Ubuntu #Linux using the #SurfaceLinux project.Everything works fine but the pen. But Ian not sure if the pen still works at all.

So I'm trying out #Fedora 43's #KDE spin on my #SurfacePro 9 with a live USB. I know about #SurfaceLinux if I decide to go all in with it. The network browser in Dolphin seems to be using '.local' for my instead of the search domain configured in /etc/resolv.conf. This seems to cause authentication to fail trying to access shares. I can manually type in the right hostname, but curious why it's putting that '.local' in there at all.

I took a pristine Microsoft Surface Pro 6 tablet from 2017 that was about to be disposed, installed Ubuntu with the SurfaceLinux kernel, installed Bitwig, and... got a powerful, portable and responsive electronic instrument!

This Microsoft Surface Linux project is throwing me a loop.
In one of my previous toots/post, I had to reinstall the Ubuntu desktop. Considering the issues I'm having with Ubuntu, I wanted to switch distros. However, I am having a hell of a time having the Surface Go 2 boot from USB. I've changed the boot order in the BIOS (power + volume up), but no dice. Going to efibootmgr is giving me issues as Ubuntu won't reflect the boot order updates.
Any suggestions on this?

I ran an Ubuntu update and rebooted my Microsoft Surface Go 2 and this screen popped up. I've tried booting from a USB but not having any luck as this keeps popping up.
The preface all of this, I lost my charger for my surface at the end of December and finally got one today. I plugged it in and it booted like normal. Wifi was connected and I was able to apt-get an update. This is the screen I'm getting now. I've let it sit in the charger for about an hour at this point.
Any suggestions to move forward (ie force boot to USB?) or is this thing cooked?

I tried to avoid Ubuntu for years because it wasn't one of the cOoL Linux distros. However, I recently converted a used Microsoft Surface Go 2 to a Linux tablet and bounced around a few distros and caved in and tried it with Ubuntu on Tuesday.
I thought I was going to not like the experience but Ubuntu is sorta making me a believer. I think for this Surface Linux project, I may just stick with Ubuntu.

Update 3: Probably last update on this. Got home from work and checked the battery status. It was 87% this morning and it is now 86% just now. This is acceptable so hopefully this is the end of my Microsoft Surface Linux battery issues!

Update on the Fedora/Surface Go 2 project: I am noticing some major battery drainage when the unit is not being used.
For instance, I fully charged the device and turned it off last night. 24hrs later I turn the device on and I am at 0% battery.
I am not sure if this is a Microsoft hardware issue, a kernel issue, or a Fedora distribution causing this drainage. I'm leaning more towards a Microsoft hardware issue.

#zuverkaufen #secondhand
#linux #surfacelinux #surfacegoIch verkaufe:
Surface Go 1 8GB RAM / 128GB SSD
inkl. Keyboard cover (CH) und Stift
sehr guter Zustand
CW: KDE Plasma UX RANT
@kde Why can’t we turn this off? This could literally be a radio button toggle in system settings. It drives me nuts seeing this crosshairs cursor on the screen when I’m trying to draw in @krita I can’t even find documentation to see if there’s an option for disabling via the command line. It’s not nearly as bad as the gnome default, but in either case why isn’t there just an easy way to turn this off. #surfacelinux #rant
