I have also helped several people start and settle into veganism and I never shy away from pointing directly at the harm and calling out hypocrisy, self-serving rationalizations, logical fallacies etc. Am I being shitty by being direct? By calling people non-human animal abusers and murderers when those same conversations have led to them becoming committed vegans themselves?1) b.
I believe that you have had more "success" with convincing people to eat a plant based diet for their own sake, but then why would they stop buying honey or "animal-tested" products or supporting non-human racing or zoos/aquariums or just leather and fur products like just off the top of my head a badger hair shaving brush what is the benefit to the individual to avoid these things1) c.
You can't combat a poisoned well by toning down your advocacy that's exactly what the flesh propagandists want they want you to quiet down and stop taking extreme actions that might hurt their profits. "Injustice is never abolished by appealing to the sensibilities of the oppressor" At this moment we need more extremists not more liberal vegans and plant based dieters, the movement will continue to grow with or without you based on outreach strategy you have briefly outlined, but the radical flank of veganism is extremely small and can use all the help it can get.1) d.
Fundamentally veganism is a rights issue the focus should never ever be on how veganism can benefit humans, its ok to talk about it but to center vegan activism entirely around humans is literally de-centering the victim and plays right into speciesist narratives about how humans are the first priority and other animals exist for our benefit, except in this veganified version those animals exist to support the biosphere we live in rather than as a source of materials2)
see 1) d. , by not presenting the abuse of non-human animals in the foreground it gives implicit license to the abuse by implying that veganism is something that is for humans or even for the benefit of the individual framing veganism as an amoral position or a lifestyle choice. In much the same way that you don't get someone to stop physical abuse to humans by trying to convince them that it would be good for their mental health to be less violent. #Supremacism in #anime never seems to understand how #prejudice works. the "inferior" beats/saves the supremacist. In anime: Oh my certainty of superiority must be wrong, I should reexamine ALL of my biases. Reality: Oh there is one exception to the rule, the rest of them are still trash but there is always an exception to every rule.
One of the things the #Reich did when ordering the final solution was to tell people that "we all know that ONE good Jew, but they must be sacrificed for the greater good as the majority are all terrible and we can't let one terrible #jew escape. There were people who were crying as they signed the orders for the final solution knowing their were murdering their former friends but did it anyway.
#Hitler even helped his #jewish doctor escape before many got sent to the concentration camps 10 years before the final solution. People ALL know there is an exception to the rules in stereotypes that's exactly why they can stay racists. Anime has a very over simplistic concept of #xenophobia and it wasn't until recently that I could put my finger on why those stories rubbed me the wrong way, not enough to stop watching them but enough to articulate everything wrong with them. #racism #racists -

It’s really tricky isn’t it. I can see arguments on all sides by my overall feeling is that ultimately it becomes #ableism, #elitism, or #supremacism - whether male, white or both - to hide the difficulties & discrimination that some suffer behind a wrapper! Maybe those who don’t suffer from these worries, indignities or injustices are precisely the ones who should see them? I speak as one whose has suffered #MeToo #racism & could easily trauma-trigger -
