It is depressing and dissonant for #UCU to be in this situation. *But* where there is struggle and solidarity there is always hope.

"The LCBO brings in about $2.5 billion for the Ontario government each year. Exactly how it earns that money is not always transparent to the public.
LCBO retail outlets — the 680 stores currently shut by strike — account for nearly 80 per cent of the Crown corporation's gross revenue, according to its most recent annual report.
The rest comes primarily from LCBO's role as a distributor to bars, restaurants and supermarkets. "

Why the #WGAStrike hits home for me personally (aside from the fact that I'm a writer and we should stand together):
Recently, I wrote an article (I won't say for whom) that I believe, but can't prove, was edited by a generative text program. The edit introduced exactly the kind of confident factual errors that are the hallmark of GT. I had to work post-publish to get them fixed.
Fair wages are vital. So is keeping humans in charge of writing and editing.

Writers in every industry are facing a wave of declining salaries, job cuts and algorithms replacing human writers and editors. The WGA may represent one kind of writer, but they are fighting for all of us. I support the WGA strike, and whether you write for a living or just care about your content coming from humans making a living wage, you should too.
Learn about the strike, why it matters and what you can do to help:

If you were willing to applaud on your doorstep but unwilling to support striking NHS workers then you don’t support the NHS, you support making yourself feel better.
