  1. Take a look at today's great haul from our local farmers. Part is a CSA subscription, part was ordered in addition. All delivered to a local farm stand for easy pickup on our bikes.
Strawberries, beets, turnips, radishes, sweet potatoes, greens, broccolini, greens and more greens (kale)!
There is a great initiative from the Nova Scotia government where buying from the local farmers market, including the CSA gets a 10% discount.

  4. Millions are expected to join the nationwide mobilization launched by a combination of central trade #unions and an united front of #farmers called the #SamyuktaKisanMorcha.

India’s major farmers and workers unions are coming together to launch a nationwide mobilization on Tuesday, November 26, to demand the government address the distress faced by the majority of the country’s population of farmers and workers.

A call for nationwide #protests was given by the united farmers front, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and a joint platform of the Central Trade Unions earlier this month. Left-affiliated farmer’s organizations All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), All India Agricultural Workers Union (ALAWU), and Center for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), one of India’s largest trade union federations, are part of the call to mobilize.

  5. NEWS: Cultivating Change with Farm Transitions Australia

Farm Transitions Australia is a non-profit organization that plays a crucial role in facilitating smooth transitions for farmers, working with them to create a more sustainable future for them, their families, consumers, and the planet.

Did you know that transitioning to environmentally friendly, plant-focused farming uses fewer natural resources to produce crops, which makes them less expensive to operate compared to animal-based farms? Animal-based agriculture incurs 13% more expenses than plant-focused agriculture. While both animal and plant-based agriculture incur losses, the plant-focused industry is twice as profitable as the animal-based industry.

Farm Transitions Australia provides a much needed service to help dairy and meat farmers transition to more sustainable, regenerative and plant-focused practices.

Currently, they are working on Australia’s first farm transition. FTA are working with an Aussie beef farmer to provide him with FREE support to transition his farm into an agritourism hub. PLUS, the more than 800 Angus cows from his farm will get to live their lives in freedom, safe from slaughter!

If you’d like to support FTA’s valuable work, head over to their website: farmtransitionsaustralia.org

  6. A little farm and garden update for the homies:

One of my favorite things about the #farm is that every day is pretty much a different experiment.

The mason jar filled with flowers is my attempt at making lilac oil using the #enfleurage technique. After steeping for a few weeks, it should be ready to go.

The meat photo? #capicolla! It's going to be vacuum sealed for a week, and then it shall go hang in my cellar with the #bresaola I've had hanging for two weeks now.

And the garden-- I've got everything in this photo planted except those buckets along the back wall. I'm building a raised bed for watermelons back there, but right now the buckets are back there as storage because I don't know what I'm going to use them for (or plant in them) yet. They'll probably end up going between the back fence and the big bed in the middle. If you have any ideas, let me know!

The next step aside from the watermelon bed is to finish laying cardboard out to kill weeds, and then cover it with wood chips and level everything, so it doesn't look, well, like it does in the photo.

Also, if you havent figured it out yet... I'm in my cottage core era now.

  7. I got to talk story with an 89 yr old, immigrant, macadamia nut farmer #today and let me tell you, the trees he planted from tiny baby grafted sticks FIFTY YEARS AGO are HIS CHILDREN.

  8. "We stand with all the other organizations that are taking John Deere to task for its various violations of other agreements and laws, including antitrust, and we hope these organizations succeed in bringing fairness to farmers. We each help in our own ways, which is the true strength of the right to repair movement."
