  2. at 35+ hours in and still going strong, my personal GOTY 2025 has to be Hades 2. I've enjoyed Supergiant's games since Bastion, and they're only getting better. the clever use of music in their games has been a major factor in my going back again and again

    unique cast of characters, improved gameplay and unlock loops and variety compared to the first game, incredible soundtrack because Supergiant.. it's the whole package. if you like roguelike action games, this one's a gem

  3. CW: Hades spoilers after first escape

    Maybe I'm wrong and story progression actually isn't that tied to successful escape attempts, but when the only goal I'm given is to "escape more times", I feel like the game is actively telling me that's the case.

    Maybe it's misleading me or I'm misinterpreting it, but whether or not it's factually true that I need to escape to progress the story is irrelevant. Ultimately I *believe* it's true as a player and that belief demotivates me from playing the game enough to actually find out the truth.

    I might play a little more Hades largely out of boredom and a desire to not start #ClairObscur quite yet.

    But I feel like I'm playing *despite* the game's story, not because of it. I love #SuperGiant stories, but this one just isn't working for me.

  8. Fans of #Hades and #SuperGiant games: Has anyone seen an interview with the studio where they explain what motivated them to make their first ever sequel with Hades 2?

    I’m sure its success is part of it. But they’ve had meaningfully successful games in the past that could have had sequels, yet they’ve never done one to my knowledge.

    Is Greek mythology just *that much* fun to build around? Are they trying to grow to a new milestone as a studio, maybe take on multiple games at once?

  13. With all the (doubtless justified) hype around #hades2 approaching, I instead revisited #supergiant 's _Pyre_ and, wow, what a perfectly paced game.
    Built on the relationships that build and sever one by one as your victories save each of your players from their cozy-sports-league-in-hell.
    The "gain narrative tension as you lose characters," RPG-party-building-in-reverse mechanic is just inspired.
    And the final-page "where are they now" payoffs are predictable but so cathartic.

    Are they embarrassed by itchio? Is it too small for them? Would they have a contract that says they can't sell on itchio?

  15. Broke down and got #Hades2 recently. Kiddo had a decent session on it yesterday. I love the graphics, but the game itself is kinda repetitive. Shoot shoot blast run madly around the screen shoot shoot dodge and finally clear the single arena. Get a powerup or health boost, run to next room and do it again. If that floats your boat, great, but for us it’s just a little too much wash rinse repeat, ultra-pretty or not. #gaming #videogame #videogames #supergiant

  17. Everyone's like "Hades 2? Already?" and I'm like, "You know it was in development since 2021, right?"

    Still, definitely worth the dosh as it currently stands, even in Early Access. Supergiant show that same level of polish and care as they do in all their games.
