  1. This week's #ThursdayFiveList theme is #CelebrateBooksDay. Here are the first five songs that came into my mind:

    Neil Sedaka: The Diary (1959)

The Superbs: The Story Book of Love (1964)

  2. I haven't been buying too many 45s in recent months, but I just got this in the mail a few days ago:

The Whispers: I Was Born When You Kissed Me (Doré 758, 1966)
    youtube.com/watch?v=dTmfDyK5GAk

I already had the original version of the song that was recorded by another L.A. group, the Superbs (Doré 736, 1965), but although the Superbs are one of my favorite soul vocal groups, I think I may like this one even better.

There's seems to be an alternate version of this record with slightly different instrumentation, but this YouTube clip sounds similar to my single.

The Whispers, of course, went on to have a long string of hits in the 1970s, but I'm partial to these doowop-influenced 1960s recordings. "As I Sit Here" (Doré 740) is another favorite from this period.
